DUMBO Dads and Galapagos Art Space present a screening of "Bugsy Malone"

“It's a great neighborhood event for kids and their parents - it's a great film!”

On Tuesday at 7pm GalapagosKids ~ presents a free screening of Bugsy Malone!

Jodie Foster and Scott Baio star in a kid-populated musical set in 1929 New York City. Bugsy Malone (1976) captures a gritty but flashy world of would-be kid-gangsters, kid-showgirls, and assorted depression era characters – all played by kids, and instead of bullets it's all pie-guns! An incredible film really, I saw this movie when I was a kid, it was spellbinding.

DUMBO Dads is a Meetup group for Dads living in DUMBO, Brooklyn.

DUMBO Dads thinks it’s important to help new parents understand and adapt to what’s happening in their lives. Being a new parent can be confusing, and it can be isolating. New parents think their kid is going to turn blue any second, and without the traditional support that parents in more rural or suburban communities enjoy, the first-time New York City parent is left to discover what they can from whomever they can, as best they can.

Dads especially need a forum to learn from each other. Being a male parent is different than being a female parent, and men learn and experience fatherhood in different ways than women.

Maybe we’ll meet in Brooklyn Bridge Park on a Saturday morning and fly kites. Maybe we’ll get a telescope and look at the moon and the stars. Maybe we’ll fish in the East River. Maybe we’ll fix up the playground or plant some trees or paint something. Who knows – we’ll figure it out as we go along.

Young families are an important part of the DUMBO community. Having a new child, especially a first child, is a wide-eyed never-seen-this-before experience and we think it’s important for Fathers and Families to learn in diverse, inclusive ways. You might be white, you might be black, you might be Chinese, you might be (!) Canadian, you might be married, you might be co-habitating, you might be single, it doesn’t matter if you’re straight, gay, or anything in between – we all think Parenting and Fathering are critical issues that we want to learn about, and we think doing it together is an important opportunity we don’t want to miss – in fact we think there’s value in doing it together and learning from each other.

Many new Fathers would benefit from a social and informational circle they might not have access to, especially if they’re far from their own birth homes, and Galapagos Art Space thinks it can help create one.
