SF/F Group

This sub-group focuses on Science Fiction and Fantasy, so if you have anything that falls under that category — be it short story, poem or novel-in-progress — then come! We'd love to hear from you.

Our format allows each reader 15 minutes to present their work... followed by approximately 20 minutes of feedback from the other attendees. To ensure a fair opportunity to respond, each attendee is limited to 1 minute of feedback time. (Using this structure, we are usually able to get through four readers in any given night.)

If a reader elects to post their work in advance (NOT a requirement!), members will be able to access that work under the "More" > "Files" section from the drop-down menu, above.

Readers are:

• Sam (femali)

• Emily

• Bill Ferris

Backup:

• Ann

• Ken

• Travis

I've meant to post about this sooner, but here you go:

Housewarming (and Ada's Birthday) Open House

    Friday May[masked] pm to midnight

    Frank and Ada Brown

After a year at this address we're finally unpacked enough to have a housewarming. Plus, Ada is celebrating one of those birthdays where both numbers change on her personal odometer. We had to get rid of about half our stuff when we moved, so please, *NO presents*. We will have plenty of food and drink on hand, but if you enjoy bringing a refreshment, go for it. Significant others are welcome. Children are welcome, but please know we got rid of most of our child orientated stuff when we moved. 720 Shepherd St. Durham, NC 27701

Jim Hines' first Libriomancer book devotes quite a bit of space to avoiding this (the not-so-consensual sex).

This meeting was awesome! There were some great stories and outstanding energy; I may not be able to sleep but I should get another chunk of one of my books done.

Sorry guys, I woke only a little while ago after feeling pretty lousy. I'm afraid I will be missing this one, but I'm reading Emily and Sam's posted readings and will send my feedback accordingly.

Also, anyone who is interested in a book, let me know and I'll pre-sign one for you and bring it along.

Somehow it looks like I rsvp'd twice? Hope that doesn't prevent someone from attending! I'll be coming from the airport straight to atomic cafe!

I want to say that by tomorrow afternoon I will have my piece posted. It's in the "I need to read through and edit" Stage so it shouldn't be much longer.

Hello everyone. I'm putting out a quick inquiry. Would anyone here be interested in collaborating with me on a science fiction webcomic? I've got a basic story concept in the works and I might bring some stick figure drafts to show the idea to the next meeting if anyone is interested in being a co-writer or illustrator.

    May 3, 2014

    • Rebekkah N.

If I had any reasonable illustration abilities... Oh well. I've always loved the idea of webcomics.

      May 5, 2014

    • Emily W.

I could offer to co write. it does so fun but even my stick figures are fail.

I am a backup reader for Tuesday. I have uploaded my story "Border Incident" in case I have an opportunity to read.

Hey folks, I was rash in volunteering as "deep backup" as we're nearing ConTemporal (June 27-29). As Lit track director (I know, what was I thinking?!?), I'm required at meetings -- of course scheduled for Tuesday nights. I'm going to have to miss the group meetings until the beginning of July, when I'd like to put my name back in the hat for reading. I'll miss you all! Hope to see you at ConTemporal!

    1 · May 2, 2014

  • Kenneth W.

I am listed as a backup reader for Tuesday. Will I know in advance whether I will be reading? Should I go ahead and post my story on the web site, just in case I get a chance to read?

    May 1, 2014

    • Fraser

Unless we get two of the designated readers cancelling in advance, you won't know until you get there. A lot of us post when we're designated backups, just in case. But there's no penalty if not.

Here is a little humor to jump start your day. Technically I no longer live in NC so if you feel I am just clogging up the group page let me know and I will leave it. Hope all is going well. http://www.gocomics.com/pearlsbeforeswine/2014/04/13
