SF/F Group

This sub-group focuses on Science Fiction and Fantasy, so if you have anything that falls under that category — be it short story, poem or novel-in-progress — then come! We'd love to hear from you.

Our format allows each reader 15 minutes to present their work... followed by approximately 20 minutes of feedback from the other attendees. To ensure a fair opportunity to respond, each attendee is limited to 1 minute of feedback time. (Using this structure, we are usually able to get through four readers in any given night.)

If a reader elects to post their work in advance (NOT a requirement!), members will be able to access that work under the "More" > "Files" section from the drop-down menu, above.

Readers are:

- Cheryl

- Allegra

- Sam of the Mannish Clan

Backup Readers are:

- Phaedra (substituted by David)

- Gerald

- Christopher

Deep Backup:

- David

Hey, ya'll a second reminder that my Writer's Work Day is Sunday, June 8th. I just posted the Directions to Birnamwood -- which new people should peruse, as GPS sometimes bails in my neighborhood. For those new to these thingies, they're from 12-6ish, good eats, fellowship and unstructured writing time in your choice of comfy, pleasant nooks in my wooded retreat. FYI, we have 2 big, tall greyhounds, which may meet you at the door, but don't jump on people and are generally zen -- lying exhausted on their beds when we have guests. Gravel roads can get muddy, if you'd like to join in the walkies ;)

Hey guys. So thus week another big budget sci Fi movie starts. Edge of tomorrow. If anyone is interested we should get a group together and go maybe one evening next week. I don't think it will be the grandest sci Fi movie ever made but I do think it will be a fun popcorn movie to watch. Ron, Jennifer and I went to see godzilla and we had a really good time!

Hmmm. Is that the one with Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt, where they keep having to die over and over? If so, I

      Drat! I'm interested.

I greatly enjoyed this meet-up. It is fun to hear so many different views from people that all like the same (more or less) genre. Next time I will continue to Bailey's with everyone else.

    • Allegra

It was good to meet you, Jeff. You won't regret going to Baileys neither ;)

I apologize to the readers. I read earlier today and wrote critiques. Not feeling well, bad HA, and mired in malaise. No Bailys either. My bad.

  • Lauren

I'm not going to be able to make this one. I had an earlier appointment that's taking much longer than I expected.

    June 3

  • Gary

Looks to be a bad week for people's work. I, too, must duck out. I hope to see some of you at Allegra's this weekend!

Gonna have to bail this one, folks. Work has become Armageddon, apparently.

  • Travis S.

Sorry for the late notice, but I will not be able to make it tonight. Slight chance I turn up at Bailey's, but doubtful. Have fun!

    June 3

  • Dara

I too will have to come at 8. I'll try to make it to Atomic for the last reading and head out to Bailey's with you.

    June 3

  • Sam

Might not be able to make it tonight!

    June 3

  • Kimberly H.

Thank you all so much for the warm welcome last time. I've got a work thing that'll have me tied up until 8ish. Maybe I can just plan to meet you all at Bailey's?

A lot of people do who can't make the main meeting. It's cool.

  • Christopher W.

Hello, I am not sure if the Christopher on the back-up list is this particular Christopher, but unfortunately I cannot make it tomorrow night. I will be there on the 17th and then 1st July though and would love to read on one of those nights, if possible. Kind regards -Chris

My chapters are up. I'll read starting on page 10, but have attached it from the beginning for anyone interested. I've made some minor revisions based on your comments from last time. Thanks!

I have posted my story "Kristof's Landing." To make this more publishable, I'd like to trim it down under 10000 words. (Currently 10700.)

I've been invited to take part in a blog hop, which requires me to find three other writers to "pass the baton" to. Would anyone here be interested? The blog needs to answer 4 simple questions about your writing process. Your blog should be posted on June 16th, and then you pass the baton on to three other writers who will post the following week. Please contact me if interested: CStrickl (at) PHEInc.com (And I'm still trying to find time to attend a meeting!)

I'll send you an email, Carol. I'd be interested.

    Hi all,

I'm wondering if someone on backup for the next meeting would be willing to swap a spot with me? I'll be heading back home to Canada at the end of June, not to return for the foreseeable future. Unfortunately, that means my last meeting will be June 16th, and I'd really like to present something on that date. I'd be eternally grateful to anyone helping me out.

    Thanks,
    Phaedra

Those of you who were at the meeting where I read from my short story, Related By Blood, might be interested to that I am now wearing a beautiful butterfly pendant that Frank just gave me for my birthday. He hadn't read the story, it's just one of life's little synchronicities. Or is it, bwahaha.
