SF/F Group

This sub-group focuses on Science Fiction and Fantasy, so if you have anything that falls under that category — be it short story, poem or novel-in-progress — then come! We'd love to hear from you.

Our format allows each reader 15 minutes to present their work... followed by approximately 20 minutes of feedback from the other attendees. To ensure a fair opportunity to respond, each attendee is limited to 1 minute of feedback time. (Using this structure, we are usually able to get through four readers in any given night.)

If a reader elects to post their work in advance (NOT a requirement!), members will be able to access that work under the "More" > "Files" section from the drop-down menu, above.

Readers are:

Courtney

Ada

Sam (of the Mannish clan)

Fraser

Backup Readers are:

Emily

Travis

Sam

David

I also have been working on my piece since we last met. I can add some fine tweaks and have it ready if it's needed.

Looks like we have everyone lined up for tonight, but I posted a back-up piece just in case it is needed.

Sorry for the late notice everyone: a few of us doing Camp NaNoWriMo this month are having a write-in at my apartment tomorrow (Sunday), from 11 AM to 3 PM. There will be caffeine and snacks, and a fluffy white cat wandering around.

If you're interested let me know, and feel free to join for part or all of the time (open to more than just Wrimos). I'm in the Ashbrook apartment complex, 601 Jones Ferry Road in Carrboro, in apartment C5.

    Hope to see you there!

I wanted to check with the group for my knowledge only, um What is the way people would like the line spacing for my work? In most workshops I see it double spaced, but with laptops it doesn't really matter anymore. So I just wanted to know how people preferred to see it.

Check though. A lot of markets prefer Times New Roman. But that's easy to change.

If you missed it, yesterday's episode of The State of Things on NPR was a lengthy and entertaining interview with Jim Minz of Baen publishing. He talked about the state of SF/F publishing, the curse and blessing of dedicated fanbases, etc. It is worth a listen while you're in the car or around the house.

Can someone give me a quick overview of what an editor means by a doc in "industry standard format?" Feel free to e-mail me offline at [masked]

    Thanks.
