I have three rescued Dachsies. My senior Sammy is about 13 years old, my middle son is Petey, he's about 4 years old and my baby girl, Isabella Durlie Whirl is about 3 years old. All three have amazing stories of their survival and how they came to be rescued and then became the loves of my life! I hope I can share those stories (and other Dachshund rescue stories) with y'all some day soon!
Oh yes... all three are always current on vaccines and all are fixed! Plus, we are diligent about giving monthly heartworm preventative on the 1st of every month without fail! Petey almost didn't survive his heartworms when rescued as a stray. The vet said he only had a 20% chance of survival! But he is completely HW free now! Monthly preventative is such a simple way to keep your dachsies happy and healthy!
Bella and Petey are pretty social, but not always at first. Once they see what's going on around them, they want to be right in the middle. Sammy on the other hand is an old fuddy duddy who would rather not be bothered unless there is food involved.
I'm out in the NW (290 at Huffmiester) area. There is a park that I've been to down Hwy 6 in the Bear Creek area, but I don't mind driving anywhere and my rescue organization always has something going on in different parts of town! I'd love to help if I could. If not, I have resouces within my rescue organization that I can call on to obtain helpful training suggestions.
