Puppy Mill Auctions
First, I want to say that I wanted to send this out yesterday, but didn't have electricity after that storm.  I did have a front yard full of tree, not exactly what I wanted.  Georgie sure loves the sticks, though.... So a day late, but still timely!
Janeal, founder of Wag N Train Terrier Rescue and owner of 2 adorable wire haired wieners, sent out an email on Sat night asking if anyone would be willing to foster a dachshund.  There was a puppy mill auction in Mo...all breeds of dogs, many being sold for just $1!

A mill auction is a horrible place, as the dogs are handled like livestock, and their fate is bleak.  They can be sold to another miller and be kept in the puppy mill system to continue to be bred repeatedly, neglected medically and abused physically and mentally.
If no one buys them, they will most likely be put to death. Shot behind the barn.
They each wore a tag around their neck for the auction.  When their number was up, if there were no bids, their time was up....
Or they can be saved by a rescue. No one likes to pay a miller for a dog.  No one wants a miller to make money off these dogs that they've used and abused, as you're just perpetuating the cycle.  But if you can save a life for a buck or two?  Better than the first 2 options!

Wag N Train saved 10 lives on Saturday.  6 of them dachshunds!
So we did some scramblin' with Janeal and in the hottest part of the day on Sunday a few of us met in a parking lot in CB and picked up some scared, but sweet mill dogs that have a whole new world and life in front of them.  Here are the new babies that will be getting a taste of freedom for the first time in their young lives:

Trent, born 11/15/2010.  This handsome sable is loving the feel of grass under his HUGE paws, all the different smells outside, the fun "secret" tunnel behind the couch, and the unlimited amount of food at Mama Cheri's house.

Tascha says her foster Daisy, 5/15/2010, a smooth red dapple, is a bit of a nervous Nelly right now, but it's to be expected....b/c we think she's EXPECTING!  Don't have absolute confirmation, but Daisy appears to be carrying around a few extras in that tummy of hers.  (And Trent appears to be the proud papa!)

This tiny girl is a year old (6/22/2012) but only weighs 5.4 lbs!!!  Just a little pixie!  Don't have much info on her yet, other than she is sweet as can be!  Callie that works at the Spay and Neuter Clinic is fostering this little one.

Little Ally May is about 3 months old, born 4/7/2013.  Foster Mama Sam says she is working on wrapping foster Daddy Charles around her little teeny, tiny little paw....  With a face like that, it won't be hard to do!
Brian took in a sweet smooth red girl named Jo (short for Josephina), born 11/26/2010.  She's been nervous, as all of them have, but is doing fine.  We'll get more info and a pic as soon as she settles in.
And Janeal took in a wire hair female herself!  I don't have any info on her at this time.  Janeal has been a little busy trying to juggle 10 new dogs, vet appts, photo shoots, etc, all without electricity!  FUN!
I'll keep you posted on these fosters as they get vetted, settled in, start to trust, and let their personalities shine through.  Hopefully some of them will be able to come to the July meet-up at Hanscom Park so you can meet them.
I want to thank all of you wonderful fosters that stepped up on such short notice.  And Janeal, thank you for saving some very special little dogs.  :)
~Cheri
PS  Tune in tomorrow for an episode of "All My Fosters"!!!   I've got new dogs to work with!!!

And when I said that Trent had huge paws...

Left is Trent, right is Georgie.  They are about the same length and height.  But look at those FEET!
