5/7 Lunch + Cloud Dev Demo + Rapid Prototype

Are you looking for free, enterprise quality software and services you can use without having to spend time managing any of the infrastructure yourself? IBM DevOps Services (IDS) and BlueMix may be just what you're looking for! In this meetup, we'll introduce you to IDS, a Software as a Service offering you can use to collaborate with others to plan, track, develop, and deploy software to BlueMix. BlueMix is a Platform as a Service offering for building, managing, and running applications of all types.  You can even setup a build pipeline in IDS that will build your application, run your unit tests, and deploy your application to BlueMix whenever a change is pushed to your code repository!

In this session, we'll do a live demo of IDS so you can see the planning, tracking, developing, and deploying functionality for yourself.  We'll also discuss how you can leverage BlueMix for your next big thing.

There is no entry fee. Lunch will be provided.

How many of you signed up to the Bluemix Beta.

Candy Steve David - If you haven't, it is still free here: www.bluemix.net.

Let me know how many (you / others from your team) have done it, thanks much.

    Followup #4 - Slides uploaded.

Didn't see a place on Meetup to upload slides. The deck from this Meetup from Lauren and me is posted here for now (and downloadable),

Followup #3 - Managing app level performance.

I checked further on Steve's question about what in Bluemix monitors app level performance. I mentioned an log aggregator. It is called "Loggregator". Logregator is an open source project, part of CloudFoundry, which underpins app performance monitoring in Bluemix.

More on Loggregator is on github, here: https://github.com/cloudfoundry/loggregator

PS - I will consolidate the slides and post shortly, stay tuned - thanks.

Followup #2 - Can an application be imported into BlueMix?

Short answer: Yes. I jogged the question around the BlueMix developer community. There's at least one respondent, provided 4 links for more elaboration. Please follow the stream directly here: https://www.ibmdw.net/answers/questions/12855/importing-an-applicaiton-into-bluemix/?community=bluemix

Thanks for the question Vijay, which benefits all.

I really enjoyed meeting all of you yesterday! A few follow ups on what we discussed:

Mobile Quality Assurance is the mobile testing application I mentioned. Information about it is available here: https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/community/blogs/mobilequalitybeta/entry/what_is_mobile_quality_assurance?lang=en. There is a Watch Video Demos button toward the bottom of the page.

I found a question in the forum about how to create a new BlueMix service: https://www.ibmdw.net/answers/questions/10554/how-do-we-get-a-service-certified-and-published-in-bluemix/?community=bluemix

Follow up #1 from 5/7 BlueMix Meetup: Watson Developer Cloud & Cognitive Computing

    1. Sadly, there's isn't a Meetup in our vicinity. I will check feasibility to get a Watson expert to a future Bluemix Meetup. Meantime, more learning is here....
    2. You can participate remotely in other Watson Meetups. I see them here, http://www.meetup.com/find/?allMeetups=false&keywords=ibm+watson&radius=Infinity&userFreeform=Dallas%2C+TX&mcId=z75240&mcName=Dallas%2C+TX&sort=recommended&eventFilter=mysugg
    3. The Watson Ecosystem has three main pieces: Watson Developer Cloud (runs on SoftLayer, includes SDK for API and partner ISV's), Watson Content Store, and Watson Talent Hub. More,

Thanks Team - It was a pleasure hosting this with my colleague Lauren Schaefer. Glad you are finding the BlueMix Meetup a good use of your time and learning. Over next few days, I will complete the follows up we discussed. In few weeks, I will tee up next Meetup pulling from topics the group suggested. So, please look for the alerts....thx again.

Thanks Candy, Joy, and few others. Got most of your info - thanks. Will have your names set up at security desk (west entrance, behind building). Timothee - will try to upload pix and then some .... so you don't miss too much!

PS - IBMers, I don't need your names for security; just bring badge or ID.

I'll have to skip, didn't realize it was a lunchtime thing.

As a newcomer to this group, I would just like to say that if IBM will make a space available to us, that would be fine with me. This is a very busy week for me, and I'd like to go ahead and get a definite location, so I can enter it into my phone calendar and forget about it!

Venue confirmed, IBM Coppell. See details. Will you come? Please RSVP, thanks.

  • Vijay

Is this happening right now? I am in the IBM Coppell office.

    May 6, 2014

  • Shannon

I will be there if we are doing SoftLayer office, since I will be at that office anyways.

    May 1, 2014

    • Gurvinder A.

I would have preferred it, but SoftLayer was unable to provide a room. We are confirmed for IBM Coppell venue, short ride. RSVP if you are on so we have sufficient pizza

Vijay - It is tomorrow, Wed at 11.30. Allow 10-15 min to find parking, security, and settle in. See details. Please RSVP so I have headcount for Pizza.

    Hello Meetup-ers -

Sorry about this request from IBM Facilities which is the venue we will use tomorrow. If you are non-IBMer, please send me the following so I can set up your security visitor access prior.
    - First & Last Name
    - Company
    - Citizenship (doesn't have to be US)

I am interested, but would like to confirm the time/location. is it 11:30 AM CST at the IBM Coppell location ? Meetup header says 11:30 PM and no location

    • Vijay

Is this happening today ? I m in the IBM coppell office

      May 6, 2014

  • Gurvinder A.

Lauren Schaefer will run the demo on BlueMix tomorrow at 11.30. Lauren is a Growth Hacking Engineer and the IBM Social Media Lead for JazzHub / DevOps Services.

We are all set for tomorrow. I will take a final headcount from RSVP's and order pizza. Allow 10 min to find parking, walk in, and get settled with pizza. As you enter security from the west bldg entrance, the "old cafeteria" is to your immediate right.

Shannon - SoftLayer is saying their rooms are booked. If you can wangle something and confirm to me, we can hold meeting at SoftLayer premises. I will need to know soon. Keith is also checking.

    May 2, 2014

  • Gurvinder A.

I corrected the PM->AM typo. The venue is TBD. Fall back location is IBM Offices which are in Coppell (near 635/Belt Line). This will gives everyone some coordinates. I am investigating to see what other choices are feasible: with public access+projector/screen+Internet.

Anyone, any ideas from other Meetups, please let me know

    April 30, 2014

  • Gurvinder A.

Keith - Not Las Colinas. the fall back location is IBM Coppell. Can you arrange a room at SoftLayer Addison (plus projector and Internet access) which is more central and happening patch of town? If so, I'd like to contact you offline to coordinate details. Bluemix runs on SoftLayer, right there - how cool would that be!
