Dallas Content Strategy is proud to present Colleen Jones Wednesday August 29th, 2012! If you were not fortunate enough to make our last meetup with Kristina Halvorson, this is definitely another nationally recognized thought leader in the Content Strategy space you don't want to miss. We will have limited seating for the event, so make sure you RSVP!

It's an exciting time to do, or consider doing, content strategy. Our digital universe thrives on content. Learn why content is no less than a force today and how content strategy is the only way to master it. Along the way, get pertinent examples, practical philosophy, and an occasional Star Wars reference. This lively session will inspire experienced content strategists and help newcomers or stakeholders get a grip on the essentials.

Colleen is the author of Clout: The Art + Science of Influential Web Content (New Riders). She is the principal of Content Science, a consultancy that transforms content from blah to brilliant. When she isn't advising clients ranging from startups to government agencies to Fortune 500 companies, she leads studies and blogs at Content Insights.

8:45 - Drinks! (We will be having drinks at the bar upstairs at ALoft afterwards, all are welcome!)

We usually have a presentation on a CS related topic, followed by a Q&A with presenter. Members are encouraged to ask questions and contribute, we are all here to learn.

This meeting will be held at A Loft in Downtown Dallas - 1033 Young Street Dallas, TX 75202. Everyone that will be attending, please be sure to get there on time, as we will start the meeting promptly at 7:00pm. Don't be late!

I learned a lot from Colleen Jone's presentation. I'm soooo glad I attended. After reading a sample of her book, I'm ready to buy a copy. Steve: kudos on bringing her to Dallas.

Colleen had some of the best real world examples I've seen yet on the topic of governance. I particularly loved the NUDGE approach to dealing with design suggestions that doesn't align with a company's style guides and / or overall message architecture. Good stuff!

Simply put, Content Strategy is...

You've heard it before - "Content is King". It's been burned into our collective conscious for the last 10 years. We get it. We need content. Why are we creating content though? Who is editing that content? Who is creating it? When are we creating the content? How often? Where is it going to publish and how is it going to be delivered? Mobile? Desktop? Both?

These are all questions that Content Strategists commonly ask and answer. Content Strategy saves production time by clearly defining requirements, communication goals and project scope. Content Strategy can bridge the gap between marketing / biz dev and creative / interactive. It can help inform the User Experience and Information Architecture while guiding the tone and voice of the actual copy. When applied and practiced correctly, Content Strategy can solve a lot of complex problems related to all types of content - and not just for web.

Content strategy has been evolving as a practice within the industry of web development since the late 1990s. Being a relatively new discipline in the world of web governance, content strategy is still making its rounds to other areas of interactive design and internet marketing. Here in Dallas, you'll be hard-pressed to find many resources about this emerging field, until Dallas Content Strategy came along. Founded in 2009, Dallas Content Strategy aims to spread the good word of Content Strategy to one and all.

And that's the purpose of this meetup. Join us as we share our CS knowledge and experiences and learn from yours. This is a group to build the knowledge base of CS in the Dallas area by way of sharing and asking and learning together. It's a way for many like-minded professionals interested in content strategy applies (user experience specialists, user experience designers, writers, journalists, bloggers, mobile application developers, content experts, information architects, web designers, stakeholders / business owners and more) to grow on the same common ground.

Because we all want to make better content and provide better experiences for the people who use that content.
