Dennison, TX

OK  seems there are alot of folks that want to do the Denison trip...I've laid out a few sites that we can visit (thanks to Bob for his google walk thru the town)  but this is going to be an impromptu meetup...if we see something we'll stop and shoot it!  :)   Let's all meet at 101 east main street in Denison at 8:00 am.  The only other "scheduled" stop will be at Nick's Family Restaurant at 11:30...never been there but it has a good rating and by then we should all be hungry.  ANY other thoughts on where to go are welcome.  Someone mentioned Hagermans National Wildlife Refuge...if there is interest I will plan another trip and we can do an early morning meetup....like sunrise early morning :)

I've created a Bing Map and will try to share it...still learning the MS software but it seems to be more user friendly than the google one...http://www.bing.com/maps/?FORM=Z9LH2#Y3A9MzMuNzU2NTAyfi05Ni41NDMwMjgmbHZsPTE2JnN0eT11JnE9ZWFzdCUyNTIwbWFpbiUyNTIwc3RyZWV0JTI1MjAlMjUyRiUyNTIwc291dGglMjUyMGNyb2NrZXR0JTI1MjBhdmUlMjUyQyUyNTIwRGVuaXNvbiUyNTJDJTI1MjBUWA==

UPDATE  8/23/13.  I've drove up to Denison to check out a route for this meetup...I found that while this town has a nice historic downtown I couldn't find anything particularly special about the area...Unless I am missing something I'm thinking this is a long trip for nothing special.  If anyone is familiar with the area and can suggest where specifically to go please post.  Otherwise I think we need to come up with another plan for this Saturday meetup....OPEN TO SUGGESTIONS!

Dennison is an old town on the TX-OK border area. I've done some checking and there are old buildings, bridges etc. Thought we might make a day of it....shoot, gather up for lunch and perhaps shoot some more....Thoughts?

I really wanted to do this meetup, but Ciera can get a free private golf lesson Saturday morning, so that has to come before my fun... Can't wait to see everyone's photos!

...just a thought, depending on when we finish in town maybe we can head over to the refuge after....We'll see who wants to do what after lunch. There is also a great old train bridge across the Red River on 75 at the OK border, limited access but again we can figure something out. See you all on Saturday, bright and early :)

Since we are meeting at 8, if anyone wants to join me for early morning shoot at refuge, we can carpool. Probably leave metro area around 5 am. I'm in Roanoke area.

I'm interested in going to the refuge. Will you be coming up 377? I'm in Argyle and can meet somewhere close to carpool.

I will do anything. Bob has some good thoughts. But I will do anything.
Hope we include what Bob suggests. But I will do anything. As long as it's not Hockey.

I like this idea. Closer and haven't been to the Stockyards in ages.

Actually, we should do the Stockyards when it's cooler and when I'm actually in town...lol

The Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge sounds interesting, but don't we need to arrive early for best shots?

Hey with this group every location is a great location - as long as we have Jethro Tull music to shoot by

Denison is a great idea. Denison used to be a bustling city during the height of railroad usage in the US. However, it declined about the same time that the railroads declined. That means that this is a great opportunity to take pictures of "urban decay." I put together a bunch of locations that I found while "driving" around the city with google:

https://skydrive.live.com/redir?... If you are into textures, contrast (old/new), and nostalgia photos, then this would be a perfect location.

Also, the Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge is only 11 miles west of Denison: http://www.friendsofhagerman.co... That might be a great location to head to in the morning, or in the afternoon. It would appear that there are a lot of opportunities to shoot pictures of birds there.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
