Wednesday is swing dance night at the Sons of Hermann Hall! They have beginner East Coast Swing lessons from 8p to 9p (Bill and I don't always go to the lesson so email me if you want us to go with you) the lessons start on time so get there a little early and then from 9p to midnight there is swing dancing. There is a good mix of people with a wide range of ages and all levels of dancing experience. You don't need to bring a partner as the lesson rotates partners. During the general dancing people are friendly, will ask for dances, and are usually willing to dance with anyone who asks.

The Hall is on Elm St at Exposition. Apparently the local parking regulations are strictly enforced so be careful about parking and if you park in a metered spot, pay the meter as they are active until midnight.

The triangular parking lot across Elm and the Baylor lot across Exposition are now off limits - they'll tow you. There is a gravel parking lot two blocks west of the Hall where you can park for free. It can be accessed from both Main and Elm.

The dancing is upstairs and there is a bar downstairs. The drinks are cheap and the bartender is a volunteer so tip well. :)

There is a $5 cover for the lessons/dancing. The Acme Dance team also usually offers an intermediate/advanced lesson for various dances (Swing, Lindy Hop, Balboa, Charleston, Shim Sham, Jazz moves, etc.) for three dollars more from 9:15 to 10:15.

Mick and Melina are having a Halloween party at their home in E. Plano!

Non-Believer's Halloween Ball
An evening of feasting, rejoicing and cavorting in religious mockery!
Come join us for all thing's most abhorrent to the church, games of religious derision, divinations (anyone have a ouija board?), tales of atheistic ancestors, scariest bible quote contest, and (weather permitting) a bonfire.

Wear costumes (not required), bring food (vegetarian potluck dinner) and drinks (alcoholic or non) and invite friends.

RSVP, we'll send you the directions (this will not necessarily happen as soon as you RSVP but it will get to you before the party).

Email Linda, Mick, or Melina with questions.

Don D, our resident star gazing authority, has agreed to sponsor our group again this month at the Frisco Star Party.

Don says: "The sun will set at about 7:30 with decently dark skies being available by 8 PM. Jupiter is high and bright in the early evening, so come out and see the king of the planets through a variety of telescopes if it's clear. The moon will not light up the sky until after midnight, so it may be a good night for seeing some of the brighter Messier objects. These so-called deep sky objects include a variety of astronomical objects including star clusters, planetary nebulae, gaseous nebulae, and galaxies. There are impressive members of each of these classes of objects available this Saturday night: the Wild Duck Cluster, M11; the Ring Nebula, M57; the Swan Nebula, M17; and the Andromeda Galaxy, M31. If the weather cooperates, come out and see these objects and more on the evening of October 10. Here's hoping I see you there!"

There are restrooms at this location.

If you have a scope bring it out.

If it's cold out be sure to dress warmly as it can get very cold when you are just standing around on cold pavement. Good shoes, a hat, ear coverings, and layers are your best bet. You can always take off what's not needed.

(BTW this is only a stargazing party - no food or drink required. :)

More details, including directions to the Park, are available at:
Frisco Star Party

The site gives directions from Preston, from the Tollway you turn right on Main (FM 720) and go for about 1.5 miles through Old Frisco, past the old watertower to Meadow Lane on the left. A median prevents you from turning left directly onto Meadow, so you can take the next left into the parking lot of Liberty Baptist Church and go back to Meadow.

On this map of the park we will be in the area at the bottom:

NOTE: If it is overcast or the weather is severe the event will be cancelled. I will post a notice and email the "Yes" and "Maybe" RSVPs. You can also check the TAS website.
