I've always been an atheist, and nobody in my immediate family is religious, either. I come from a very liberal and secular part of the country (Washington, DC). I am a reform Jew and attended Hebrew School for eight years, but we studied the Old Testament as a document of tales, fables and allegories, as the basis for cultural traditions more so than beliefs. So I wouldn't say I ever became an atheist; I never conceptualized God to be a literal being and my educators never tried to convince me otherwise.
My name is Alec. I am from the Washington, DC area and will be moving to Dallas in a couple weeks to take a new job. I would like to meet like-minded atheists for stimulating discussion and good company.
