I come from a deeply religious community, attended a Christian college, and until last year my professional and personal pursuits have been oriented exclusively around my faith. I discovered Carl Sagan's "Cosmos" around the time I moved to Dallas and rather unexpectedly had my eyes opened to certain scientific truths I was shielded from during my religious upbringing. Following a year of research, I realized I couldn't reconcile what I was learning with the creationism I'd been taught in high school and college. By last spring, I'd concluded that the idea of a god wasn't necessary to explain anything in my world, and moreover conflicted with (or could be explained by) findings in biology, geology, psychology, etc. I've remained mute about this as I explore approaches to sharing my position with family, friends, etc. In the mean time, I'm looking for a community where I can engage and receive advice without needing to be covert.
I moved to Dallas 2 years ago and I currently live and work in Uptown. I have a degree in political theory and job in marketing.
