AFS Exchange Student Host Families Being Sought

Hello Freethinking Friends and Families -

AFS Intercultural Programs has asked for our help! AFS is an exchange
student program and places approximately 50 international high school
students in the Dallas / Fort Worth area each year. Unfortunately, AFS
finds it is often difficult to find host families for students who mark
their religion as 'none' or 'Atheist' in their application profile, and
has requested our help distributing information in the hopes to find
potential host families open to these student's individual beliefs.

The AFS students come from all over the world - Asia, Europe, South
America - and have a variety of different interests and activities.

Specific information on hosting with AFS can be found on-line. If you go
to www.afsusa.org, click on the "Host a Student" section. Then down at
the bottom (blue section) under "Host a Student" look at "4 Steps to Host"
and "Hosting FAQ's" (Frequently Asked Questions). These sections
contained the best information for someone considering hosting.

However, to answer the most commonly asked questions -- the students are
here for 10 months (late Aug - end of June), they bring their own spending
money for personal purchases etc. (AFS recommends $150/month), and AFS
provides 100% coverage on medical needs (doctor visits etc.) while they
are here. Students can share a room with a host sibling of the same sex,
however they need to have their own bed.

Let's help find these students a freethinking family here in the Dallas /
Fort Worth area.

Interested families should contact Rebecca Cartier at rcartier@afs.org or
646/381-3328.
