Self-injury: from peculiarity to a more complete understanding & treatment

It's not an "if", but a "when" you come across someone who has a history of self-injury.  If you work in a church or school setting, are a parent or grandparent, this information is of particular importance for you. Conservatively, 1 in 5 teens will self-injure.

Event is especially for:  anyone who has contact with people 20 and younger, including parents, siblings, ext. family, teachers, youth ministers, preachers, coaches, nurses, counselors, doctors, Scout leaders, and PTA members.

OK, so this is not the most upbeat, entertaining topic, but unfortunately, a conservative estimate would be that about 15-30% of kids, teens, or adults self-injure at some point in their life.  (See my website for research interviews in Dallas Child, Houston Family, & other media outlets re: prevalence rates).  If you have, or know of, anyone that is 20 years or younger, then they most likely will know at least 1 person who has injured.
