MapReduce with R

David is going to demonstrate the capabilities of MapReduce within R.  MapReduce is a programming method to handle very large data sets.  MapReduce was first introduced by Google to handle indexing of websites on the internet.  Now MapReduce is used in a number of ways to handle big data distributed over many clusters or cores.

UPDATE!!!! New location at Gorman Lecture Hall A. This is made possible by the great response we are getting. Thank you to everyone!

Gorman Lecture Hall is immediately adjacent to the Science Center, building #6 on the map. I will also have signage about to help guide everyone to the right location (look for the "R" logo).

Could we get some more info before the presentation?

    March 4, 2013

My plan is to cover (some of) the overview of MapReduce, and then move on to the "hooks" in R (RHIPE, Revolution Analytics rmr, etc.). From there we'll get to try and do some statistical tasks via these packages. If I have time, I'm hoping to look into the newly released RevolutionR functionality that purports to move a significant chunk of computation to a MapReduce framework.

Very much interested in knowing RevolutionR and rmr2 packages. As of now I am using rmr2 with Hortonworks sandbox and playing with RevolutionR demo. Nice to know your opinion on these tools as well.
