Managing your R code with revision control and automated testing

This month Jeff will introduce some of the more important software design tools and techniques that can be used when writing R code. In particular, he will cover revision control with Git and GitHub which can be used to collaborate and record the provenance of your programming projects. Additionally, he'll introduce automated testing of R code using the testthat package which can be used to ensure code quality.

What is the duration of this session?

    • Jeff

It will depend on audience participation, but I'd guess around 1 hour -- at most 1.5 hours.

Jeff, do you suggest bringing a laptop?

    January 14, 2014

    • Jeff

There shouldn't be a need to. Most of code I'll be working with is small enough to fit on a slide so you should be able to follow along that way.

I'll make all the code and references available online (on GitHub!) afterwards, so you shouldn't miss anything if you don't have a laptop.
