Instead of a Christmas Party, The Dallas Trekkers has a White Elepant Gift Exchange in January. Bring a wraped white elephant gift (a gift that you recived but can't use or a humorous gift)for a fun time.
The Dallas Trekkers Walking Club is using Meetup to promote the best walking club in the metroplex. If you enjoy walking with interesting people in interesting places, this is the club for you!
Join The Dallas Trekkers Walking Club today. You don't have to join the Club to walk with us, but at only $10 a year, it's a bargain.
The Trekkers offer non-competitive walks in the Dallas area. We love to walk together and regularly have Group Walks at Dallas' most popular trails and neighborhoods: White Rock Lake, Katy Trial/Uptown, Cedar Ridge Preserve, and Southern Methodist University/Park Cities. But we also frequently schedule Group Walks in lesser known, but just as interesting, places such as Waxahachie, Richardson Parks, Lake Highlands and Downtown. We call these walks Year Round Events (YRE's) and in addition to the Group Walks these routes are available to individuals almost every day of the year. Click on the YRE name on the Dallas Trekkers YRE page for info on how to locate each YRE's Walkbox with walking directions and route maps.
We also sponsor 6 to 8 Special Event Walks every year to explore some of Dallas' most historic/interesting neighborhoods and or parks. Recent Special Event Walks were: Peacock Walk near White Rock Lake (June 1); High 5 Walk (September 26) and JKF Walk (Nov 16). We charge $3 per person for our Special Event Walks to defray costs for Meetup ($144 per year) AVA fees ($30 sanction + $1.25 per walker), supplies and publicity.
The Dallas Trekkers is affiliated with the the American Volkssport Association (AVA.org), and the International Federation of People's Sports (IVV). The word "volkssport" comes from a German term that means "sport of the people." There are more than 300 volkssporting clubs in the United States and more than 3000 events each year. There are city walks, rural walks, historical walks, state park walks, to name a few.
If you like to collect awards to mark your walking achievements, the AVA incentive program is a great way to track you distance and event participation. You will be recognized by AVA and the Dallas Trekkers in their Newsletters and receive Pins and Patches when you reach certain milestones. There is a small fee of $3 per walk to participate in the incentive program.
