Will tomorrow's designers get the same attention that today's programmers are getting, as well as the money?

Here are some recent indications:

- Autodesk: What is the role of designers in creating a better world?

my comment: video said it best

- McKinsey&Company : The Internet of Things and the future of manufacturing

my comment: If the future of manufacturing is contract manufacturing where design is separated from production, then design is even more relevant.

- MIT Technology Review: Today’s Phones and Tablets Will Die Out Like the PC

my comment: If mobile devices will become irrelevant like the PC, then the next big thing will be for designers to find ways to have more pervasive access to computing.

I know Product Design stands out in these references, but isn't UX design tied closely to product design.
