The Dallas Area Boardgames Meetup Group Message Board › Boardgaming with Seniors at a Group Home
On September 2, I received a message from Mary Rowley, who was seeking volunteers for a group home for the elderly in Garland. I asked her to clarify what she meant by "volunteering" and she replied:
This is a group home with 11 elderly residents and their activities consist of sitting on the front porch or watching TV. The Garland senior center has bingo but everyone wins and the prize is a sugar filled snack. Not only is that not good for diabetics but Bingo needs a little competition. The center also only has dominos (42) and texas hold'em once in a while. This group home is mixed women and men and I know they would enjoy board games, card games, singers, dancers, magicians, anything...... Please if you could help or can point me in a direction that would be great. Mary
Are there any Meetup members who would like to participate, teaching some seniors a few board games? If so, either post a reply on the message board or contact me directly.
