Basics for Raising Backyard Chickens

Jeff Raska, Texas A&M Ag Extension Educator for Dallas County will be back at Trinity Haymarket to lead a discussion on raising backyard chickens. Jeff will discuss the proper care including housing, bedding, feeding, healthcare and choosing the best breeds for the backyard flock. A Q& A session is encouraged and will follow the presentation. Jeff should have some of his sweet bantams on display. Come help Trinity Haymarket celebrate its first anniversary of being open. The Class is free but we need a proper headcount for planning purposes so please RSVP and let us know if you are brining a guest.

Some inaccuracies: not ALL corn is GMO. Not ALL fructose is GMO. Not sure if Jeff really knows the defiinition of GMO! Otherwise, he was knowledgeable and helpful.

MOST corn is GMO & unless it is labeled non-gmo I don't buy it.

Assume all corn is GMO unless it is labeled specifically "non-GMO"

Thanks to everyone coming to our Autumn Open House and 1 Year Anniversary celebration at Trinity Haymarket on Saturday. Noticed a comment on Corn.. To clarify over 90% of corn grown in the US is GMO CORN: HOWEVER, Trinity Haymarket LLC only sells NON-GMO and ORGANIC Corn both whole shelled and cracked in our store. Our store will only sell NON-GMO Grains whether it is Whole, Cracked or Milled... All of our feeds that contain corn is NON-GMO Corn. So no worries when you buy our feed corn. It is all NON-GMO!!

Hi, I would like to buy 2-3 female silkie chicken and don't know where to buy...

You might try Roach Feed and Seed in Garland for Silkies. They had some recently. Another store that carries lots of varieties of chicks is Gecko Hardware but I dont know if they have silkie hens in stock... We only raise a few heritage breeds at a time.. Previously we sold Gold and Silver Laced Wyandottes, Black Australorps and Speckled Sussex. Will not be selling any more pullets before next Spring.
