We started with 3 chicks in 2005.
We currently have 13 hens and 3 roosters.
We wanted to see what the different breeds were like, so we have a couple Rhode Island Reds, a Plymoth Rock, a couple Leghorns, a Buff Orpington, a Cuckoo Maran, 5 Araukanas and a little Mille Feuille D'uccle bantam. Our roosters are an Araucana, a Black Silkie Bantam and a Silver Seabright. The Araucanas are our favorites.
We love the fact that our girls are so happy to see us everyday. When we go out to the pen, they all come crowding around the door and when we sit on the bench they all want to jump up and sit on our lap. There's only room for two at a time, so some try to land on our shoulders and even on the top of our heads! They love to just sit and snuggle and it was a wonderful surprise to learn that chicken's are responsive and love to be loved.
I don't know anyone else who is interested except my neighbor, and her husband says "No" to chickens.
