New Meetup: How to process a chicken

Announcing a new Meetup for The Dallas Backyard Poultry Meetup Group!

What: How to process a chicken

When: Saturday, May 1,[masked]:00 AM

Where: (A location has not been chosen yet.)

Lots of us raise chickens as pets for eggs, but some of us may also plan to eat our chickens. But how? What are the steps for humane killing, plucking, etc.? If you are interested in learning how to process a chicken, we have a host who will allow us to watch as he processes about 100 broilers, which are raised for meat.

This is not a commercial slaughter house, but rather a family's nearly self-sufficient homestead on 1 acre in Lucas, Texas. They have chickens, rabbits, goats, a vegetable garden, and compost heaps.

If you RSVP "yes" for this event, you will be given the address a few days prior. This is not a public event, and only members who are truly interested in learning how to process chickens should attend. Please be aware that the proceedings may be graphic for children.

The event is from 9 to 11 a.m.
