Once the weather cools off a bit, (I am thinking October) I would like to have a group camping trip. I would need to start planning it in the next month or so. If you would be interested in attending something like this, lets talk about it. Also, if anyone knows a good group camping spot, please share!

We don't have a tent and aren't real campers, but something with a cabin might work for us. If I recall correctly, Buescher State Park & Tyler SP have cabins & group camping. But don't count us in yet. We're still waiting to hear back on a job offer before we make any travel plan$ ...

We would love to join you. Probably all 4 of us, even if it is in October. Dinosaur Valley is our hope, if it can be arranged. We will tent camp or cabin camp.

There are lots of local state parks good for camping. Cedar Hills is just south of Dallas, has 100+ sites and great mountain biking (for those into that, like me). There are a dozen or so Texas state parks with cabins, but they tend to book up months in advance. So pick a park/date soon and reserve away. Several of the state parks have nice group bunk facilities- another option. Up near Ray Roberts is a nice lodge. And down south near Burnet is Canyon of the Eagles- a private lodge with a great eagle tour of the lake.

Yay! Someone with experience! Ok, I nominate the Hahn's to chair our camping committee!

My experience with the cabins is that you have to book at least 4 months in advance and the few we've stayed in were kind of pricey for the quality we got. I was thinking an alternative would be screen shelters. It is a good option for those who do not have tents to still be able to participate. I looked in to Tyler SP. I have never been there before but my neighbors said it is nice. It is about 2 hours away from Dallas. There are several shelters available the weekend of October 16-18. Only $25 per night for the shelter and tents are allowed at each shelter site as well. This would definitely help a big family like ours not to have to pack 2 tents! Tyler SP also has paddle boat rentals (as well as other types of boats) which my 9 year old said is a MUST for a good camping trip!
