Welcome to the Dallas Modern Quilt Guild!
Our mission is to promote the art of modern quilting in the Dallas area. We offer educational demonstrations/workshops, swap and challenge opportunities, and charitable community outreach.
Membership is open to quilters of all skill levels and we pride ourselves in creating a positive, welcoming atmosphere for new and experienced quilters alike. We are a nonprofit organization and a branch of The Modern Quilt Guild.
As a member of the Dallas Modern Quilt Guild, you’ll have access to our private, members only site! Members view detailed events on our Guild calendar, participate in discussion forums, have access to our group photo albums, and more! Members also receive first priority to attend events such as social sewing events, retreats, and workshops.
When joining Dallas MQG, please use your full name as your Meetup ID. This helps us match check or WePay dues payments with members and it also assists us in maintaining an accurate membership roster for our 501(c)3 filings.
Our monthly meetings are held the fourth Thursday of the month at 7 pm at Ridgewood Park United Methodist Church, 6445 E. Lovers Lane, Dallas. The church is located on E. Lovers Lane between Abrams and Fisher, about 1.3 miles east of Central Expressway. Each meeting focuses on a new topic with a different swap, presentation, demonstration, or challenge.
In November and December, we meet on the third Thursday of the month due to the holidays.
SATURDAY AND SUNDAY SEWS
What could be more fun than quilting with friends? We have cutting and ironing stations as well as large work spaces ready for you! Just bring your project and machine! Saturday Sew and Sunday Sew dates are posted on Meetup.
The perfect time to work on all your put aside hand-sewing such as hexies, embroidery, binding and anything else you can think of that does not require a sewing machine. This super fun social time takes place on the first Monday of the month at the location listed on our Meetup page.
The hospice program at Presbyterian Plano is our charity of choice. In addition to finished lap-size quilts and quilt tops, we also accept donations of: batting, fabric, backings, and quilting services. Please contact our Community Service Chair, Chelsey Fields, for more information.
Each May and November, our members enjoy a little piece of heaven when they attend our bi-annual retreats! We have recently added a no frills retreat in August for those of us who can't get enough quilty fun! They are the perfect time to build camaraderie, learn from each other, and strengthen our friendships! Quilting + friendship = too much fun!!!!
Retreats are a perfect time to finish those UFOs [unfinished objects], special projects, and community service lap quilts. Spaces are limited and fill up quickly. DMQG members receive priority reservations. For more information on our retreats, please contact our Retreat Coordinator, Kathy Bright.
$40 annual dues are payable each year. We recently changed our year end to 12/31 to coincide with MQG's year so we are collecting $20 dues to take us through 12/31/16. New members are invited to attend two DMQG events before becoming a dues paying member. Dues may be paid by check ($20) at our meetings or if you prefer to pay on Meetup, the cost will be $23. Denise Strueber, VP of Membership, will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
