To our members.... (caveat: this is an endorsement by your organizer)
Perhaps you already know about Urban Acres, which over the past three years has risen from farm coop/CSA to farm store and delivers shares of local and/or organic produce and meat/dairy all over the Metroplex. I have been a member for the past 3 years and highly recommend them.
They are expanding to new space, with expansion plans including hydroponics and lessons on food preparation as well as chickens, beekeeping and other aspects of sustainability.
They are raising $30,000 through Kickstarter to make this happen. I want them to succeed in their local food/local business venture. Here's what they say about their efforts:
Urban Acres has launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise $30,000 for an urban farmstead, “a small oasis, (1300 sq ft) in the historic neighborhood of Oak Cliff right in the heart of Dallas, that brings together the best of Texas farms and local artisans under one roof.”
According to the explanation on Kickstarter, the homestead will be “a place where patrons can enjoy deliciously prepared local food, learn about aquaponic gardening, the importance of bees, feed chickens and enjoy a cup of locally roasted coffee in a rocking chair on our front porch.”
Go to Kickstarter to find out more.
I just wanted to make you aware of their efforts and if you can, please think about supporting them! Localization is the way to sustainability!
