2013 Plano Balloon Festival

The 2013 Plano Balloon Festival takes place this weekend. Unlike the last few years, the weather this year looks like it will be beautiful. Plano barricades Spring Creek Parkway between Parker and Jupiter Road every year for this event. Visitors enter by foot (or bicycle) on Spring Creek Parkway, and the balloons are down the hill in a meadow in Oak Point Park. We could meet at 5 P.M. on Saturday and possibly watch the balloon launch an hour later. Parking is available in the surrounding area. If you want to meet me, give me a call when you park. If you are a prospective member, you may pay your membership dues at this time.

In case you have never been to the Plano Balloon Festival, let me advise you in advance, all parking within a half-mile of the entrance costs $10. Spring Creek probably will be a mess; Parker likely will be better. I think you will be able to park at the Los Rios entrance to Oak Point Park; that was still open when I checked at 5 P.M. Friday. However, you would have to walk up to Jupiter Road, then around to the entrance on Spring Creek to get into the festival. Or, if you like, you can park somewhere up the street, and then bicycle to the entrance. Bicycles are allowed inside the Balloon Festival.
