Hike Spring Creek Nature Preserve

This is a multi-stage hike; hike as much or as little as you like!

Stage 1: Half-hour hike from the Maple Ridge Trailhead, around the loop and back.

Stage 2: Cross Holford Road to Garland Avenue for another 15 minute hike.

Stage 3: Cross Garland Avenue for another half-hour hike.

I plan for us to hike mostly on dirt (or mud) trails. Wear shoes that can get dirty and wet and dress in layers. The weather is chilly, but you might get hot as we hike.

The weather forecast for Saturday morning is temperatures in the upper 50s. We should beat the rain by a few hours, but be ready in case of sprinkles.

I really want to make this hike, but it's scheduled at the same time as an REI backpacking class. Please do this one again soon!

Weekends work great for me. I'm usually committed to climbing and kayaking activities during weekdays after work.

You sound busy! This park has worked well for our group for years.

This sounds just right. Thanks for the opportunity!

I am going to try this and am fine with going behind by myself if I can't keep up.

A walking stick might help you. The entrance at Mapleridge is about as rigorous as this trail gets, at least until we reach the more remote parts of the trail.

This is my first time hiking in the US and its been a long time since my last hike. Do you have any recommendations -i.e. what to bring?

    1 · October 21, 2013

    • Pooua

This is a comparatively short, safe, urban hike. The trails may be slightly muddy, so wear something that can get dirty. You might bring bug spray, but I doubt we will have very many bugs with this cool weather (we haven't had very many bugs, anyway). Maybe wear a hat, to keep branches out of your face. You might want to bring along some water. Park your car along the curb and lock the door. This is a good neighborhood, so everything should be safe. You might want a walking stick, but I'm not planning to use one.

    Are dogs on leash welcome?

    October 20, 2013

    • Pooua

Yes, they can come, but be mindful that other people not in our group often also have dogs.

    Hi,

I'm recovering from a serious back injury and may be able to hike some by then (slowly) if it's flat terrain. Is it flat with level tread?

    Thank you!

    October 20, 2013

    • Pooua

No, this is not flat. The hills are not very high, just a few feet, but this would be one of the more strenuous walks I've led.

  • Sara

Wish I could join you. Have to work that day.

Mapleridge Drive is a short street. Drive down to the dead end and park. There will be a group of people there.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
