Start the new year by hiking Cedar Ridge

  • Jan 6, 2013 · 10:30 AM
  • Cedar Ridge Preserve

Let's start the new year with a hike at Cedar Ridge.

This is a challenging venue with many ups and downs.

I will be going 5 - 6 miles.

Uneven terrain so wear good hiking shoes with good support.

Bring water and a snack.

Hike should take 2 to 3 hours

Could be a little muddy but not bad.

I think I read that there are alot if snakes. Is this true? I would live to go if its not true.

amy, i've been there several times and have never seen snakes (not even in summer). that doesn't mean they're not there, but i think it's too cold for them to be out now. plus, with the 30 of us walking in a group, it's not likely the snakes will want to approach us :-)

No, Amy, this is not a true statement. Don't believe 99% of the alarmism you read. If snakes were a problem do you think this many women would be attending hikes on a regular basis?

The group hiked at a good clip. I went the full 5 miles or so, and it was definitely a workout. Quite a lot of hills to climb.

Enjoyed the walk, enjoyed meeting the fellow hikers.:-) Thank you again, Deborah, for organizing it. Great way to start the New Year!

Very easy to find the group. There were so many people that I couldn't meet everyone, but I had such a nice time! I hope we do it again soon!

Well, I was late but made it. I saw lots of cars but no bodies. Dog and I hiked anyway. Had a good time. :)

If I can't make it Sunday morning, when's the next time at this venue? Anything scheduled? Anyone interested in meeting later in the day to do all, or a combination of shorter trails?
