The Dallas Yi Jing (I Ching) Meetup

  • Oct 27, 2012 · 1:00 PM
  • Craig Leger's house

The Dallas Yi Jing (I Ching) Meetup gets together once a month, usually on the fourth Saturday of each month.

Saturday, October 27, 2012: We continue our discussion of how the hexagrams relate to the nuclear hexagrams.  This month we will cover Hexagram 61 (Inner Truth), and then review the key hexagrams that make up the Earthly Cycle group:

Hexagram 61 Inner Truth
Hexagram 23 Splitting Apart
Hexagram 24 Return
Hexagram 27 Nourishment (Bulging Cheeks)
Hexagram 02 The Receptive (Earth)

See the discussion on Nuclear Hexagrams for details.

Our meetings begin with a light lunch, and then we study together one of the sixty-four Yi Jing hexagrams in detail, or study two or more related hexagrams. The lunch is often a potluck lunch at a member's home, but sometimes we decide to meet at a local tea house or restaurant. Please refer to the meeting announcement for more specific details about the meeting for that month.

No prior knowledge of the Yi Jing (I Ching) is required. Our members have different levels of experience and different approaches. We welcome all who would like to attend.

Those people that have translations of the Yi Jing are encouraged to bring their translations to the meeting. A portion of the meeting usually includes a comparison of the different translations. Extra copies of English translations of the Yi Jing are available for those that do not have a translation.

Our meetings usually last 2+ hours, but people are free to leave the meeting whenever they need to go.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact our organizers.

Yesterday I mentioned the Daoist Canon of sacred writings, and I had said that the Dao De Jing and the Yi Jing were both included in it, but that is not correct. The Dao De Jing is included in the Daozang. The Yi Jing itself is not included in the collection; it is mentioned in one of the texts.

The Daozang (Chinese: 道藏; pinyin: Dàozàng), meaning "Treasury of Dao" or "Daoist Canon", consists of around 1400 texts.

Here is the reference to the Yi Jing in
    DaoZang Volume 131, Page 050a1

Our discussion of Inner Truth (Hexagram 61) led to an interesting discussion about speaking both truthfully and with compassion (Right Intension, Right Speech), and the real cost of deception to spiritual tranquility. I do not think that we have finished with Inner Truth yet. We are very glad that our new friends Nick and Lynn were able to join us this month. We look forward to the insight they bring with fresh perspectives. I am grateful for the encouragement that each of you bring. Good spiritual friends help me keep focused on the noble way.

I will try to make this meeting. Is there a particular topic?
