Dancing to OTC @ RIVER CITY--limited RSVP to 30

It's been too long since we've danced to one of our favorite bands, OTC band, so we're heading over to the River City Saloon on Leonard on Saturday, September 13, 2014.

The OTC band has quite a following, so everyone please RSVP as soon as possible so I can ensure I reserve enough seating for our group. I will try to get tables by the dance floor.

Start Time:  8:30 pm.

No Cover Charge

They CHARGE for WATER:  $2 per bottle

PARKING:

Since I have only been there about one other time, I am not the best one to advise on parking since it is limited. Recommend you get there early to increase chances of finding parking in the street right on Leonard. Here is a google satellite link that may help see what is around the area to park: https://www.google.com/maps/@42.9857285,-85.6977038,141m/data=!3m1!1e3

------------------------------------------

Do to the small venue they would only allow me to reserve tables ahead of time for a party of 15 (they said it will be by the dance floor by the half wall). Any other seats we will need volunteers to come in early....by 8:15 pm if you can, to help reserve some other seats, if they are available. They said this band fills the place up quickly so we may have to take turns sitting. Sorry for the restrictions...small venue, popular band.

I will be arriving there at about 8:15 pm and I will be there till approximately 12:30 pm, but members are welcome to stay later till they close, if they prefer.

I will have tables reserved for our group and will have our "Dance Craze-GR" Meet-up signs placed on them so members can spot our group..

You can learn more about the band OTC (Oh Those Clowns) by visiting their website: http://www.otcband.com/ . A few music teaser:

For all those new to the group, welcome. We are a very laid back group that just likes to get out and have fun on the dance floor. The dance skill level of the group varies from extreme novice up to those trained in ballroom. The main purpose is to relax and have fun on the dance floor. By the way, that is where you will find me most of the night. This isn't the traditional club meetup group where most sit at the table chatting, drinking and eating--although we all do that as well, rather the main focus is the dancing. For some they need a little liquid courage to get out on the floor and for others, they are out their the first song so do what you feel comfortable doing. We do not judge in this group. :) So I look forward to meeting and dancing with you all tonight to a fantastic band, OTC!!!

Wow, you guys are way ahead of me! I don't own ballroom shoes or dance clothes, but I do have jeans and comfy shoes which is what I will wear. And I can be there by 7!

I found some great ballroom women's shoes at a very reasonable price at Kick's Dancewear on Breton. The have the greatest selection in kids dance shoes, but did have a few for women. Here is their website: http://kicks-dancewea...

At the time I purchased them, since I attend some lessons at Moveir Dance studio, they gave me a discount on shoes (for dance students).

This will be my first time joining the group. I'm rather new to GR, and am not familiar with this place. Is this more of a free-style place, or will there be ballroom dancing as well. What do most people wear (including ballroom dance shoes). I'm planning on meeting for dinner at 7:00. Thanks!

    September 13

    • Diane O.

Since the floor isn't a typical ballroom floor, I don't know if I'd recommend wearing ballroom shoes (due to the felt on the bottom of your shoes may get sticky. I personally have a pair of ballroom shoes that I use only for dancing at dance clubs and a separate pair I use for dancing on a cleaner ballroom floor. It is a typical dance floor you would find ad a dance club or bar...while it is bigger than most, this band is very popular, so may be quite a few people on the dance floor.

      1 · September 13

    • Diane O.

I usually try to get out on the dance floor right at the start when the band first starts (they start about 9:30 pm, since most of the other patrons at the venue, not with our group, don't get out on the floor till they get a few drinks in them and work up their courage. :) That way our group can have more space on the floor to dance for at least a period of time at the start. :)

FYI....manager there just told me they charge for water....it is not free rather $2 per bottle of water. They do have food there as well.

    September 11

  • Diane O.

Ok....I could only reserve via phone a table for 15, so that means I would need ideally 5 volunteers who could get there early...like no later than 8:15 pm to try to grab a table or booth that seats 5 if possible so we can try to get enough seats for everyone. Because OTC is extremely popular it would be best to try to get here ASAP to get seats...otherwise we may have to take turns sitting.

    i usually only watch.

Due to the smaller size of this venue and the popularity the event is reflecting, I am going to cap this event at 30 people, so if you can't make the event, please update your RSVP so that those who may be on the waiting list can get on the RSVP list. If you haven't RSVP'd yet, recommend you do that asap since only 6 spots left as of this writing. :)
