Yosemite, Sequoia Natl Park & Kings Canyon

I've been participating in a motorcycle rally recently (kind of like a scavenger hunt) and found myself in the Shaver Lake area looking for bonus points. I found some tasty new roads and a great place to stay so I thought the next thing I should do is share it with my friends! :)

This will be a three-day ride - Saturday, August 2, through Monday, August 4. We will be staying here both nights:

http://shaverlakevillagehotel.com/html/rooms_cabins.html

If it is full, here are two other options close by:

http://knottypinecabins.com/cabins.php

http://www.elliotthousebandb.com/

I would recommend making your reservations ASAP if you plan on coming as they get very busy in the summertime. I'll have routes soon but it will include a visit to Half Dome in Yosemite as well as Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Park. If you've never been, you're in for a treat. Might consider getting a US parks pass as well:

More info to come so stay tuned! :)

Another amazing ride with the mother and her various ducklings, who kept scattering to the four winds, regrouping only when alcohol was available! Ok, not really, but what a great trip! Great to be hang with everyone. Thanks T...loved sleeping with you! ;-)

Actually that's pretty accurate... LOL I liked shacking up with you too! Let's plan some time to chat about your project soon! :)

Yes, definitely, as soon as I get this move out of the way and return to a modicum of sanity!

This is one of the best trips I've taken so far with DC. Many thanks and a round of applause to Tyler for organizing and leading us through such beautiful scenery and roads (esp. Hwy 245 - Senad is still chanting it so that he doesn't forget the name). It was really great to see old friends and meet new ones.

Yep, she popped her cherry. :) She did pick a good spot though, the only thing ended up hurt was her pride. :)

      August 5, 2014

    • Scott

Well obviously she picked herself up and got right back on. Good job, and learning from the experience even better.

Tyler, thank you for a great trip (as always) and for putting up with us. What a great ride! Tonight I'll be dreaming about highway 245. :)

    • Elynn

Yippee, you remembered name of the Hwy :P

Tyler Thank you for all the work you put into organizing this ride. Henry & I enjoyed ourselves. It was great seeing old friends and making new ones. I don't think I would have ever been to this area if it wasn't for DC. Thank you again.

Made it home safe and sound, sore tired but with a big smile on my face! Thanks to everyone for the laughs and the great times riding together. Special thanks to Tyler for putting so much of herself into planning, these rides wouldn't happen without someone to set things up. Thanks to all, hope to see you all down the road.

Still on the way home - getting some coffee to avoid rush hr :)

Glad you're no longer a DC virgin, Clark! Hope to share some more (s)miles with you soon! Elynn, enjoy that caffeine for the last push home! :)

Darn, just couldn't make it work this time. I signed up for the next one to Bridgeport. Hopefully that one will work out.

Have fun. Wish I were there. I'll be in Glacier National Park. I'll think about you all in Yosemite.

That is not a bad place to be, Heather! It is gorgeous there! :)

I just made a slight modification to Monday's route to include going out to Glacier Point - not planning on going into the valley floor other than to exit out via 140.

If anyone is planning on doing their own thing on Saturday and I should not be expecting you at the meet spot in San Jose, please let me know (Clark I know where we'll find you and Lazz too!). Thanks!

    July 31, 2014

    • Lazz

Lol, I said I will be camping sat night @ Huntington lake but that's on our route :)

Hey the hokey pokey sounds like fun, haven't done that in years :-)

Since I am here in Salinas I was thinking of joining the group enroute possibly around Gilroy.

    July 30, 2014

    • Tyler

Clark, we'll be heading down 101 and over 152 east. KSU from San Jose at 8:30 so I imagine we'd be down there around 8:30ish. You can wait somewhere on 152 and jump in with us. Remind me what bike you ride?

      July 31, 2014

    • Clark A.

I responded on Facebook, see you all in Gilroy at the Shell on 152.

I've updated the initial post with meet spot for Saturday and routes for all three days. You are all welcome to do your own thing if you prefer - just let me know! :)

P.S. It's gonna be hot this weekend so be sure to hydrate and/or bring a cooling vest if you have one!

Sorry I won't be able to make it. My bestie is celebrating her 60th. sounds like an awesome ride!

Just a reminder to order your annual park pass if you would like to get one head of time (you can also pay as you go but it will take some time at the entrance of the park/s):

    http://www.nps.gov/findapark/passes.htm

    July 17, 2014

    • Clark A.

Seems like each park has its own interpretation of how many can get in on one pass. I have a life time pass so I will take as many as I can with me.

      July 29, 2014

    • Dan G

Yah, could be but the pass also says allows pass holder plus 3 extra people.

      July 29, 2014

  • Lazz

Tyler must be making devious plans right now regarding the route. Serpent's pass? :)

    3 · July 29, 2014

    • Tyler

Just running them by a local in the area that I know to make sure I haven't routed us on a dirt road or anything... I'm not sure what Serpent's pass is but I'm thinking it's not a good choice for a group ride! lol

Cabin booked @ Shaver Lake Village - we have 2 beds available for anyone who wants or needs a bed (1 queen and 1 twin) - so, we can accommodate another 3 ppl.

Hey Elynn, Got your message, but I wasn't sure how to reply to it. No worries, I realized what you meant after I posted my message and figured you would get what I meant and didn't correct it. Looking forward to the weekend!

      July 29, 2014

    • Elynn

Good - we are all on the same. Again, apologies for the confusion. Looks like we got a full house ... eh, cabin :) Looking forward to seeing everyone and meeting my new bunkies (and old ones too)

Tyler, I know you've been on the road. Just making sure that the route and meet spot/time is still awaiting posting... .and that I haven't missed something!

I've booked a cabin and am planning on sharing with Susan & Michael but there is room for another single if you don't mind a trundle bed. :)
