Spring Wildflower Weekend/Stay at The Hacienda

Our Spring Wildflower trip is just a few days away!  Here are some updates (you'll recognize some of the standard ones):

-Please let me know if you're "all in" starting at Starbuck's (early) on Friday morning -- or whether you plan to join us along the way or at the Hacienda. My cell is[masked] if you need to reach me.

-The weather forecast is 80s inland, but it will be colder at the coast. You'll need to dress in layers.

-There are still rooms available at the Hacienda if you act quickly. They have a waiting list but are holding the vacant rooms until mid-week for anyone else from our group.

-Remember you need a bunch of paperwork to get through the Army gate at Hunter Liggett: drivers license, registration, proof of insurance, and passport/related documents if you're not a US citizen.

-Please have your ICE (In Case of Emergency) info with you and let someone know where it is. If we know it, we won’t need it!

-Please let me know if you have a range-limited bike (i.e. less than 120 miles to a tank of gas)

-If my pace is not your pace, you’re more than welcome to “follow from the front” but you will be on your own so familiarize yourself with the route.

-Please wait for the rider behind you at turns so no one misses one and gets lost. I always like to end with same number of riders I start out with!

-Saturday dinner cost is $25, payable in cash at dinnertime.

I'm looking forward to riding with you all!

Leslie

Previously posted info:

Here are the details for the Wildflower Ride to the Hacienda at Hunter Liggett

You can join us for one or more of the days.  We have planned rides for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  Reservations for rooms at The Hacienda should be made by calling[masked]-2262. See the previous information posted regarding the various rooms. Friday and Saturday we will have options for a more relaxed route and a faster route.

The Hacienda is a very interesting place.  It was designed by Julia Morgan for William Randloph Hearst as his “Milpitas Ranch Headquarters.”  The design reflects California mission style but was made of poured concrete.  Here’s a link to a map showing the location of The Hacienda – turn on the satellite map to see the buildings. You can also see that Mission San Antonio is nearby: http://tinyurl.com/cgfxs44

Because the Hacienda is inside the Fort Hunter Liggett Army base, you need several pieces of paperwork to get through the gate: drivers license, vehicle registration, proof of insurance, and if you are not a US citizen, your passport and related documents.

Update[masked]: The Hacienda just called to say that they double-booked our planned weekend and we need to switch.  So -- we've changed the dates to May 3-5.  Those of you who made a reservation already will get a call from The Hacienda to ask if you can switch.  I hope everyone who was planning to come can make the new dates!  All of our other information is still correct.

Now is the time to call The Hacienda and reserve your room.  You can call[masked] and book your room for Friday and/or Saturday nights. Please indicate you're with the Dangerous Curves group. I've uploaded a file that lists all the rooms, prices & beds.

We're working on the arrangements for dinners, including pizza & bowling on Friday night and a buffet dinner on Saturday.  We'll let you know the details soon.

We'll post the routes later, but the basic concepts are Friday ride south via Carmel Valley Road; Saturday heading south and east of The Hacienda; Sunday out to Highway 25 and home. We may have two different routes for both Friday and Saturday so that we will have a "newbie friendly" route and more adventurous route. There should be lots of wildflowers to see!

Plan on May 3-5, 2013 for riding some great roads and wildflower territory in and around the Central Coast and spending 2 nights at The Hacienda near Mission San Antonio on the Hunter Liggett Army base. The Hacienda was designed by Julia Morgan for Wm. R. Hearst. Here's a link to more info about it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hacienda_(Milpitas_Ranchhouse).
More details to follow later about reservations and routes.

Great weekend / ride and beautiful outdoors. Outstanding job at picking the routes, big thank you to all of people who made it happen. This was my first trip to the area, aside from Big Sur, and I enjoyed it tremendously.

Yes, it's fine to join in for any part of the weekend. There's no "2 night minimum." I hope you can make it!

Sounds like fun! Nice area to ride.

    January 13, 2013

I've updated the description of the meetup to include the directions for reserving your room at The Hacienda and some other info. If you go to the Dangerous Curves homepage, you can find the file I uploaded that lists the rooms & their prices. Now it may get interesting to see how we can all fit into 12 rooms. Tyler's suite has about 6 recliners in the
living room -- maybe she'll auction them off is space gets tight. LOL
