Is this more the idea? 1/5, f4.5, ISO 200, WB -0.7
That's the idea! Did you use spot metering? Learn to recognize these situations and approach it with intent: Do I expose for the bright area, the dark area or take multiple exposures and combine them in photoshop to create something like what I saw and wanted to capture?
Yes, I used spot metering. I think I may finally get that. The black dropcloth was an Aha! moment for me. Okay, I will practice this for awhile. Thanks Ken.
I'm so glad I was able to help you learn how to use your camera to get what you want. Practice Practice Practice. Seek out these challenging lighting situations, Wide range of light or low range. Decide what you want. Select exposure settings and metering methods to "Make" the image you want rather than just take a photo.
