There is the Shades Valley Camera club, the Birmingham group of photography enthusiast.

Oh and a side note - if folks are avid photography enthusiasts - I am an amateur but love getting out to shoot different stuff - particularly wildlife macro and city-scenes at night

If folks every want to go on an outing for fun let me know.

I stress I am simply an amateur only but still am decent enough to pretend to be good.  If you are very much a beginner I may even seem a pro and I could offer a lot of pointer :)

@wade...im not original :(  Ill have to check that one out!  Ill be curious to see if dad's actually show up.  Men are a fickle group in ways...my suspicion is that even with the disclaimer of "men are welcome" - it will be mostly women that will show and that will snowball? (purely speculation at this point, ill have to check it out!)

@Jim - lol - good point - and that is interesting...have not really thought about how IF we were still polytheists mostly, how that would have effected the the tendency to give up on supernatural claims...interesting to contemplate.

@Jin - we should keep in touch as well and see where we all shake out....definately check out moms league of b-ham...they are nice folks its a diverse group....and regarding your travel time - depending on your location my wife and others would likely gladly find a meetup location halflway...depending on where you live, there can be cools spots that have like play places, etc....

@steve - YES!  lol

Ellery! That is a great idea. My husband and a have a 30 week old. I know he would love to do a secular daddy's day out! please keep me posted! I have not been able to make it to any of your wife's functions but I have requested to join! Birmingham is about 45 minutes away for us and I can't convince Cedar to be good long enough by himself in the backseat. He is fine if someone sits with him...off topic, sorry. Please let us know if you start a secular daddy's group, I think that's a great idea. :)

this is a random thought....but I have been thinking it.

My wife attends (and helps organize) - "mom's league of birmingham" meetup....and they are frequently doing playdates and such.

It sounds cheezy, but as a dad of two kids now (one 7 weeks old, one 2.5 yrs) I feel like it could be fun to have a "dad's league"...even better "atheist dads league"?

Im brainstorming here...but I feel that could be a killer combo...appealing to both our "free thinkers" but also families?

I have little time I think to do stuff in the daytime like they do for the mom's league, but like a once per month playdate with such folks could be fun?

Yeah, its random...I know...but a thought....like chucky cheeze atheist parent meetup...lol

I picked this up from a friend:

Instead of "thank god"

"thank gods"

It's kinda sticking on me :)

Plus why not diversify thanks and prayers?

Hello primates!

Did you know that Alabama has 24 atheist-friendly social groups now?  I found this article quite interesting, and I think you may as well.

If any of you would like to start your own social group for skeptics in Birmingham or in other cities or towns I would be happy to assist.  I think skeptic groups are generally more cooperative and supportive of each other than competitive with each other.  When a church splits, there is usually alot of anger and hurt feelings.  When a new skeptic group is born, we all say, "Thank God!"  Um...  Well...  Something like that.  Anyway, I'm happy to assist if any of you or your friends want to start a group.

Cheers!
