This piece asserts an argument about punditry support of the Iraq War without exploring the connection between national mood/opinion of the Middle East following 9/11. Yes each corner of the blogosphere had its own peccadillo for supporting the invasion.

But of course everyone had one massive reason: 9/11. If you take away that terrorist attack on NYC, everyone would have behaved more or less as expected. Liberals would shy away from support based on principal, small c conservatives would shy away based on financial reason, and executives would be afraid of owning an operation that could so easily turn against them.

Being hit so directly left the political class in the US befuddled. Hence, punditry all unified in support of invading the middle eastern bad guy on our list of bad guys.

I think I was age 19 when 9/11 happened...and I recall later as the buildup to the war in iraq, being in the dormatory and watching CNN during my lunch break between classes.

At this time, I was almost entirely uneducated and un-skeptical to what was in the media.
I recall hearing reporting about concerns of Iraq having WMD's, and I swear, I never even thought of the question "well, do they TRULY have WMD's or is this BS?!"....In my mind I think I supported the war at that time because I felt there was an obvious threat to the US, but it was based on media reporting, which turned up to be based on....uhhh...well not much.

How unskeptical was I?  Well, it turns out many more educated and more informed individuals were just as unskeptical as a 19 year old college kid from BFE Virginia.  Makes me feel a tad better.
