Re: [DarwinsTavern] DT Book Discussion Series

Hello E, Jackie and company!

I hope my "Book Worms" email answered your questions. This is just a
vague idea right now. We will need to put our heads together and
decide how we want it to work.

I would think it would be better to focus on one book for 6 weeks, but
do chapter batches. What do you think Wade? anybody else?

If for example the group read and discussed Doubt a History, we could
do 2 chapters each session. Therefore, we would have 5 sessions to
cover theat book. I don't think any book should be discussed for more
than 6. I woul only want to discuss more than 2 chapters at a time if
the chapters are not very long.  I think we should play it by ear and
see how things go.

Wow, looked at the book on amazon.  It's a "longie."  Since you talk
about the discussion as a "series," do you mean we would takeDoubt in
chapter batches or do you mean that we'd have a new book on the topic
of skepticism at every discussion?

I have decided between july 4th- Aug 31 Tues nights wont do for me. If
that day is best for everybody else, I understand and will sit out for
the book discussions.

I don't know if everybody saw this or not through the meet up

This is interesting idea. Does this mean that we would meet every 3
weeks like we do for the house discussions that we currently have? They
would be on a different night and addition to, not in place of correct?

We use to meet as a group on Thursdays, so maybe that day would be
okay. However, it should not be the Thursday during the same week we
have our other discussions.

Mondays are okay with me also, but not the 3rd monday of the month.
Tuesdays are also okay, but I know some people in the group attend the
atheist meetings on the 2nd tuesday of the month? Fri are okay, but we
have to choose an off friday or eliminate one of the current
bar/restaurant fridays.

Unfortunately, I don't have an adequate place to host (would if I
could). Therefore, we would need to find somebody(s) willing to host on
those days. If we do go along with having a topic series discussion
would it be set at one persons place or would it change?

sorry for being overly analytical, but lets say we have a discussion on
a book for   6 weeks (never mind who the host is), would it be the same
leader discussing the book each time, or would it be a different leader
discussing the book a few chapters at a time?

I would participate if it were wed, thur, or fridays.  If so, I could
also host as needed.

Thanks,

I like reading, and would participate (not familiar w/ the book, but
interested). For me, Tuesday or Friday nights would work.

Hello again primates!
Vince and I have an idea.  We're wondering if our group would want to
do a discussion series with a common theme.  We think we could use a
book likeDoubt, A History by Jennifer Hecht.  We would probably meet
every three weeks in a home.  We don't know what night.  We are
thinking that we would ask for some level of commitment from people to
try to make most of the discussions in the series.  The whole series
would probably last something like six or eight meetups.  Please let us
know your thoughts on this.  Does this sound like something you would
like to do?  If so, what evening during the week would work best for
you?  Post your replies on the discussion on the web site or just reply
to this email.
By the way, thanks Vince for your willingness to serve as an event
organizer.  Welcome the leadership team!
