Understanding Restaurant Trends with Data

We are very excited to host Justin Massa and Eric Cooper. Justin is the founder and CEO of Food Genius and Eric is a co-founder and CTO. Food Genius is a Chicago startup that has compiled the most comprehensive database of restaurant menus and developed Food Genius Reports: a product that empowers food industry professionals, analysts, chefs and food product developers to identify and create new product concepts.

Justin and Eric will talk about the challenges involved with deriving detailed structures from only very slightly structured data, how to engage customers in an iterative design process involving data-based applications, and how exactly you know that the chicken in a white chicken chili has to be shredded.

Informative lecture. It does pose the situation of using structured data libraries and overlaying or renaming taxonomic or metadata tags for contextual use. It also raises interesting questions about data as a utility leading different users to different cognitive insights.
