      Ah but then if would be conferences and not pitches :-), the idea is to give everybody the opportunity of listening to many things, and then discuss it with the speakers.
      Less pitches would not only lower the probability that you would really find something that is interesting "right now" for you, but it would also be harder to get hold of a speaker.
      60/7 => ~9 person per speaker, so you get a good change to really speak with the speaker you would be interested in.
      60/3 => ~20 you'd need a battle ax to get near the speaker, and most probably he or she would be busy exchanging with somebody they already know.
      Or you'd need much longer events, and that would be "another type of beast" :-)
