What is your favorite tool for visualizing data?

Usually custom-built tools, since I develop prototype software.

Do you think data visualization is more of an art or more of a science? Why?

A little of both. There is definitely an art to communicating effectively, and this includes visualization displays and software. The science shows up when determining what to show. The art is how to show it.
