Short, concise, but full of helpful info on creating viral infographics, plus a touch of humor mixed in!

Interesting, creative presentation! Focused mostly on conceptual grounds, leaving behind the practical side of "create" (s/w tools, design techniques). Still, for the creative focus, it was very stimulating.

Is Jess Bachman the Lady Gaga of Data Visualization or the Bon Iver of Infographics?

I appreciated the speaker's strong POV--something a good designer must have (which you would know if you ever watched Project Runway)--and I found this presentation both edifying and entertaining. (What more can the infographic consumer ask for?)

If I could (turn back time and) ask the speaker a question, it would have been about credibility vs. virality. Maybe I'm old fashioned, but when I see a data graphic with "non-standard shapes" or other questionable iconography my reaction is to dismiss it, not pass it along.

Hans Rosling is "chart junk personified"? No. We don't need Rosling to interpret his famous graphic for us. When I first saw that video, I muted my laptop and watched it in silence, repeatedly. 6 variables plotted in 2 dimensions, without any non-traditional visual data elements? Awe. I checked YouTube. Total views of Hans Rosling videos on page 1: 7,559,809. Who's viral now?

I can bring recording equipment for the next meetup. Unfortunately I will miss this one. Also, for anyone who is stronger on the programming side and uses Nathan Yau's book, you can effectively learn illustrator at lynda com He uses illustrator to put finishing touches on his visualizations.

Hey guys, can anyone help us with recording (with equipment) for this meetup? We would love to put it out and share it in the community post the event.

You might consider a book like Visualize This by Nathan Yau of the flowingdata blog. He discusses scraping and tidying data as well as using R. http://book.flowingdata.com/

Not really. This won't be a tutorial per se -but more of Jess's experience of what creates viral infographics. We'll try to record it.
