Cassandra at Coursera: AWS Deploy and MySQL transition

For this meetup we are excited to be joined by Daniel Chia, Software Engineer at Coursera.

What You'll Learn At This Meetup:

Coursera is a MySQL shop that is transitioning more and more things to Cassandra. Learn about how we deploy Cassandra on AWS, which has some subtleties when using autoscaling groups, and how we leverage Priam to manage tokens, and do backups and restores. Towards the end we'll also touch a little about what it's been like for a primarily MySQL shop.

• What we want out of Cassandra- Deployment

• Choosing machines

• Using Priam  • Monitoring

• MySQL transition

About Daniel Chia:

Daniel is a software engineer with Coursera's infrastructure team. Daniel manages Coursera's Cassandra infrastructure, from server deployment and health on AWS to working with teams to help them understand how they can best make use of Cassandra. Daniel also is a Scala expert on the team and is the lead developer of a few internal services.

* A big thank you to Coursera for hosting and co-sponsoring this meetup!
