Monday Evening Walkers

Host: Claire P. cell @[masked]
RAIN CANCELS THIS EVENT!

Weather permitting, I think it would be fun to go for a two mile walk. It’s a good way to get or stay  in shape and is so much more fun when in the company of others.  This event is meant to have fun and to get a bit of a workout.  Dogs are welcome, as long as they don’t slow us down too much.  Plan on spending anywhere from 1 to 2  hours for this event.  Many have shown an interest in doing this, so I thought I would give this a try.  Please know that I do not intend to go out to eat afterwards, only because my intent is to burn some calories, so eating afterwards would defeat the purpose.  This is not to say that I won’t join you for a drink, if any of you go out to get a bite after the walk.

We will meet at 6:00 pm at Lowell Heritage Park, across the street from Heritage Farm Restaurant on Pawtucket Blvd.

Please remember to bring plenty of fluids and dress in layers.

I hope to see you there!

Please RSVP or call my cell @[masked]-0897.  There is no need to RSVP no!

    D and J, what happened?
I thought that you were going to follow me to dinner.
Waited 5 minutes, circled and looked for you...

I am planning to walk Monday then go to Priya for Indian food, but the walk doesn't seem to be posted. Who will walk with me?

    September 30, 2013

    • Julie

Diane and I will walk with you. See you at 6:00 p.m. (We'll be doing our turbo walk) :)

      Good. I'll be there too.

      September 30, 2013

I'll post it next Monday...it's the end of the fiscal year this Monday
And I'll be working late...why don't you lead the group
    This Monday...

    • Donna C

I don't think I can. I'm not an organizer. Claire's been doing it here, I think.

No walk this Monday? Are we going to let one bad person make the riverwalk a place we're afraid to walk?

    September 28, 2013

  • paul f.

glad your feeling better. southie kids bounce back.

Don't change anything. I'm fine. Called in sick this morning.
Yesterday I clocked in at 6pm thinking it was Weds morning.
I'll go back to work Thurs. good as new

Oh Steve, I'm so sorry that happened to you. Why would anyone think to do something like that! I just can't get my head around it.
Thank God you ok. It must have been so scary, especially because of what happened to you before

    September 24, 2013

    • Steve g.

I'm fine. It's not so much as to what happened.
It's just that when he turned to me and made eye contact.
I'd be up on murder charges.
      That's what frightens me

I hope the guy that body slammed me is ok. I don't look like much but I'm pretty solid

    September 23, 2013

Black guy running to word me. I moved to the left to give him room. Instead of just running past me he shifted to his right and slammed his right shoulder into mine.
I'm well built and I'm sure he felt more than I.
I grew up in Boston, something similar to this happened to me except I wound up with a knife in my stomach.
So, to say the least, this freaked me out.

Some people carry a chip on their shoulder, are crazy or are just jerks. I'm glad that you aren't hurt and hope that that guy has at least a bruised shoulder this morning.

One time when I was younger and walking in Boston a drunk coming the other way mumbled "God damned college kids..." and threw an easily evaded punch at me. Apparently I represented the cause of his problems.

They are out there, but we cannot let the crazies take our lives, in any sense of the word.

I Am Looking Forward To The Walk. I Have Walked At This Park Several Times As I LivE Close By. See You Next Monday!

Definitely do not end the walks because of this. Believe me, he's feeling worse than I
He chose the wrong guy to throw his weight into

      September 24, 2013

  • Steve g.

I am glad that he chose me for his target. I know you girls are tough. But it just shows how deranged some people can be.
Believe me he got the worst of it And when he turned around and looked at me he made a very wise choice. If he came back I would have killed him

    September 24, 2013

  • Steve g.

Don't end the walks because of this.
This incident is just typical of the world we now live in
Don't let hat moron keep you in your house.
And he got the worst of it. I'm much more solid than I appear.

The police said that we should have called them immediately and to call them if we see him again...and they hoped that we would not let people like that deter us from enjoying our walks.I'm sorry Steve, I hope you are ok....but I understand if people don't feel safe...there are a lot of jerks in the world.

    September 23, 2013

    • Donna C

That is scary. I'd hate to have something like this ruin the Monday walks. Maybe we should stick together in a group instead of spreading out -- some walking faster, some slower?

      September 23, 2013

    • Steve g.

Happens too fast. The Police couldn't have done anything.

      September 24, 2013

  • Steve g.

People like him are out there. Like I said to you, I'm lucky he didn't have a gun or a knife.

    September 23, 2013

  • Claire P

So sorry this happened Steve! Reconsidering the evening walks.

  • Sonal

Ok thanks. I am definitely coming. See you all soon.

    September 23, 2013

  • Claire P

Yes, the walk is still on.

    September 23, 2013

  • Sonal

It is going to be much cooler tonight. Is the walk still on?

    September 23, 2013

  • Sonal

I RSVP'd yes but looks like I may be 50/50 on my plans.

    September 22, 2013

  • Donna C.

Hi Susan, I am so sorry I forgot I have plans this coming Monday, 9/23 so can't make this walk, but let me know if you have another walk the following Monday.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
