Davis Activity Partners is a place to propose ideas and find partners for all types of active pursuits in and around Davis, CA - hiking, running, cycling, climbing, swimming, gym sessions, dancing, boxing, yoga, anything you desire. Any member can post an idea - just say WHAT you want to do, WHEN and WHERE you want to do it, and WHO you are looking for (number of partners for that event, expected fitness and experience level, whatever).
DAP is intended to be a member-run group, not one of those top-down groups where the organizer decides everything. Think of it as a networking tool. In other words, the group will have only as many activities as you, the members, collectively suggest and organize. The more you pitch in, the more recreation choices you will have.
“Organizing” is not as serious as it sounds. In fact, it does not involve anything at all. Simply (1) decide what you want to do, (2) announce it to the group and see who else is interested, and (3) meet them and go. That’s it.
There are three ways to do it on our website. The quickest and most informal is by posting a message on the Discussions pages – that’s as simple as writing “I am doing X on day Y – does anyone want to join me?”. Conversely, browse those pages to see what ideas are out there. At this time, we have the Discussion pages organized into the following sections:
Outdoor exercise in Davis
Gym workout buddies
Hiking
Climbing
Out of town trips
Backcountry ski, snowshoe, and snowboard
Ski and snowboard (resort)
Davis activity partners Discussion Forum
If you think we should add other discussion topics, feel free to say so.
Second, the group is set up so that any member can suggest a meetup. If there’s some trip or activity you would like to see happen, suggest it to the group. Other members can then indicate their interest. If the idea gathers steam, we’ll put it on our calendar. This approach will probably work best for recurrent events or things that take a bit of planning.
Third, if you think you’ll want to organize occasional or recurrent events, consider becoming an event organizer or assistant organizer. This will give you the ability to put your events directly on the group calendar without any preliminary polling of other members. Again, don’t think of this as any big commitment – you are just checking if anyone wants to join you for something that you’d be doing anyway.
Finally, help spread the word about this new group. If you know of other people in and around Davis who may be interested, send them the link.
Sounds fun, want to get on those peaks beyond Pyramid at some point. Unfortunately, new job and and working all week.
