See all- Rockwell Wyeth Rodin Frank Lloyd Wright & Lunch on a Lake & Gardens in Lakeland!Red Ginger, Melbourne, FL
Thursday, May 9
Norman Rockwell and N.C. Wyeth were two of the biggest names in American art of the 20th century. This original, large-scale exhibition — exclusive to the Polk Museum and taking over our main first-floor galleries — features 40 original paintings by Rockwell and Wyeth, two singular and beloved American icons who created their most familiar images full-size in paint before the scenes were scaled for print publication. In addition to the paintings, the exhibition includes an installation of the complete, spectacular array of the 321 Saturday Evening Post covers to which Rockwell contributed between 1916 and 1963.
Rockwell/Wyeth: Icons of Americana is curated and organized in partnership with the National Museum of American Illustration, Newport, RI. www.AmericanIllustration.org, and the American Illustrators Gallery, New York, NY. www.AmericanIllustrators.com. Single Source Exhibition organized by: PAN Art Connections.
In the late nineteenth century, there was no sculptor who captured the world’s imagination like Auguste Rodin (1840-1917). Renowned for his ability to breathe into the bronze medium a sense of universal humanity and emotional truth like no artist before him, Rodin was celebrated in his own lifetime and continues to draw fans to this day.
Even those who may not know the name “Rodin” know Rodin’s work; his timeless Thinker and his Gates of Hell are emblems of modern art history and underline how Rodin mastered the ability to convey movement and form with a touch and style uniquely his own.
Rodin’s sculptures first arrived at the Polk Museum of Art for a major exhibition in 2022, the largest showcase of sculptures in the Museum’s history. Now, fourteen of Rodin’s bronzes have returned as part of an exciting long-term agreement with the Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Foundation. The loans coincide purposefully with the Museum’s 14,000-square-foot expansion, set to open in Fall 2024, with all fourteen sculptures eventually installed throughout the space of the Museum.

This tour includes turn of the century memorabilia at the Elliot Museum with circus history, Baseball exhibit, music room and car museum from the 1903 Model T Ford to the present. Hear tales of Florida's past including the Barefoot Mailman. Special Exhibit on King Tut-
“As my eyes grew accustomed to the light, details of the room within emerged slowly from the mist, strange animals, statues, and gold – everywhere the glint of gold…when Lord Carnarvon, unable to stand the suspense any longer, inquired anxiously, ‘Can you see anything?’ it was all I could do to get out the words, ‘Yes, wonderful things.’” – Howard Carter
The Elliott Museum will open our doors on January 3, 2024, to a wonderous scene in much the same fashion as Howard Carter did on November 26, 1922, 100 years ago. In collaboration with Tarek Ragab and the Egyptian Art Center in Cairo, we will be hosting “In Celebration of King Tut” in the museum’s main gallery.
We intend to do all we can to transform our modern museum space into an ancient tomb of unimaginable beauty. These remarkable objects have been painstakingly recreated by historians and artists in Egypt using locally sourced, authentic materials and scaled and finished to perfection. The impact of standing amidst these objects will be something you will long remember. We were fortunate to secure the exhibit for a five-month run which will afford everyone a January to May window opportunity to take it all in. This will be followed by a visit to Gilbert's Bar House of Refuge, which is the only one remaining of nine on the Florida east coast, commissioned in 1875 for the U.S. Life Saving Service. Keepers provided shelter, food, clothing and transportation to survivors of shipwrecks and storms at sea. Used in U.S. Coast Guard Service through WWI and WWII , was then acquired as a Maritime Museum in 1955 by the Martin County Historical Society. This museum is listed on the National Register of Historic places. The Ancient Anastasia Rock Formations are visible here. “This rock was formed about 2.5 million years ago, during the Pleistocene Epoch when Florida's sea levels were much higher. When coral reefs break down over millions of years, it builds up and you get carbonate rock (Anastasia limestone) Leave Suntree Red Ginger 8:30am and Palm Bay Road Walmart Murphy’s Gas 9am and returning around 7pm
