Dayton WordPress

This months meetup will be at Flyboys Deli in Oakwood (2515 Far Hills Ave, Dayton, OH 45419).  There will be no presentation from anyone but will just be more of a gathering and social event.

Bring your laptops and questions for the group if you have any and someone will be there to help you.  Food and drink will be available for purchase at Flyboys so you can plan to have dinner there if you would like.

Invite your friends and coworkers to come out and have a great time as well.

If you have any questions, let us know!

Any local developers have time for a project with a company in Cincinnati?

Does anyone know of a great free plug-in that works for allowing visitors to your Web site to sign up for your quarterly newsletter? It just needs to be a short little form that I would like to put on the home page in the corner. Thanks! Caroline

How are you preparing these newsletters and sending them out? MailChimp, Constant Contact, iContact...?

      June 10, 2014

    • Caroline D.

We use Constant Contact. And we use Salesforce as our CRM. I have forms set up on our Web site for folks to download white papers, datasheets, Webinars, and use cases using the Salesforce plug-in.

Hi. I've been managing a Word Press site for two years now, but didn't have to set it up. I'm now trying to set up a new site on Wordpress.org. My friend's current web site is set up on Yahoo Small Business. So, I went through all of the steps to get Wordpress installed on my laptop and then made it to the QuickInstall step and when I clicked on the "Your installation is ready. You can click on it here," it opened up my old Web site on Yahoo. I'm assuming I have to change the name servers over to Wordpress.org. I already have a domain name for this site through Yahoo. I'd like to keep the e-mail going at Yahoo, so I only want to change the domain name servers. I that correct? WordPress provided 1st NameServer and 2nd NameServer. If anyone has any information for help, that would be awesome. I will be coming to the meeting this Thursday.
    Thank you! Caroline

1st - get out of Yahoo Small Business (YSB) they are a pain in butt when it comes to WordPress installation and upgrades. 2nd - we can talk more about this if you're able to make it Thursday evening.

Hahah. Yes, I'm coming this Thursday. I actually signed up on Gator Hosting, but the client has Yahoo for its e-mail addresses and purchased the domain name through them, so I just wanted to point the domain servers over to the Gator hosting company where I installed the WordPress. But, we can talk this Thursday. Thank you!

Aren't QR codes not really used much anymore?

    June 9, 2014

    • Dustin H.

It depends on how the QR code is used. I don't think most people use them well, that's why they haven't caught on. The best implementation was at the auto parts store to scan a QR code to help find the right auto filter.

There has to be a good strategy behind it - just to 'have it' b/c its the "in thing" is long gone.

Question for the group: I'm looking into getting a qr code for a client. Any sites you recommend or don't recommend for this process?

    June 8, 2014

    • Dustin H.

What is your client going to use the QR code for? You can use: http://www.qrstuff.co...

+1 on Dustin's suggestion... in the rare cases i use QR codes now, This is the site I go to.

Rookie question...is there a WordPress bulletin board where you can share general WP questions with other users for mutual scenario sharing?

I've invited another WP friend to come along too, Alesia.
