Training Hike - Twin Creek

Time for another training hike with Mtn Laurel to prepare us for hiking the White Mountains. We will hike the orange and purple trails for a total of 8 miles at a moderate pace of 2.5 to 3 mph. The trail has a several challenging hills for your cardio workout. Please wear hiking boots and bring your hiking poles.  Bring a lunch or snack to eat half way through our hike so you can keep up your energy level. I look forward to seeing you out on the hiking trail.

This hike was last weekend. You can only go to it if you have a time machine to take you into the past. LOL!

    • mike stump

You're funny .Sorry I missed it though. Can't wait till I can go on another.

This sounds interesting , can I go along if I'm not planning on going to the White Mountain hike ? If for no other reason than to watch Maria carry her husband on her back .

Gee, where are all the mud-caked pictures of the happy sliders?

  • marcia

Beautiful day for a hike...A little Mucky--added resistance to those hills; slip sliding away-- HaHa -- But alot of fun with this group of hikers.Thank you all!!!

  • John & Teresa Nichols

Great hike, beautiful weather and the trail was not near as muddy as I thought it might be.

  • Kathie Havemann

Laurel -- that was great and I didn't die!! Am I really getting better or is it just an illusion?

    1 · February 23

    • Mountain Laurel

It is no illusion Kathie you have definitely improved! Hurray!

We had a great time slipping and sliding in the mud. It was such a beautiful day for a hike with some great people.

    February 23

  • Patricia

That was great but just long enough for me at 6 miles. Thanks. Laurel.

Why are so many people bailing because of mud? I mean we are going to have mud all Spring and we still must train to be ready for Mt Washington.

    February 23

    • Dawn

Well, um, I don't have to train and I have a treadmill & Cybex ARC that are nice and mud-free. Sorry.

      February 23

    • Mark Schmidt

I use the Cybex Arc Trainer at my gym and I agree it is a great training aid for most things

I guess I thought to long about it and decided another hike in the mud was too much for me ..and I realize there will be more mud hikes but the hikes won't be as long or cold. Thanks.

  • Terri

I so agree with You Dawn getting ll that mud on my boots -yuck!

    1 · February 22

  • Dawn

I guess I should officially change my RSVP to no. I hate to miss a hike. But, ... The mud. The mud. The mud. LOL

    February 23

  • Terri

    I have changed my mind

    February 22

  • Terri

I think that a mud bath might be fun. So all the wienys per Maria will have some extra fun!!!

    February 22

  • Kathie Havemann

    I've just added Dawn's plus1.

    February 22

  • Dawn

I'm deleting my plus one & Kathie is adding her. I may not hike. Good chance I'll cancel because I hate mud.

    February 22

  • Mountain Laurel

Weather for our hike will be partly cloudy with temperatures ranging from 30 degrees when we start to 36 degrees when we finish. Expect to encounter ice and mud on the trails. So I strongly advise you to bring your hiking sticks and to use them. If you don't bring them don't blame me if you fall down. Also wear your gaiters to keep the mud off your pants.

    February 22

    • Dawn

Mud, which will make us slide & gunk up our cleats, and ice which will make us fall if we don't wear cleats. Sounds awful. I'm going to check with my guest... Cuz I may bail on this hike & just use my treadmill.

Dawn -- were you ever a child who played with mud pies? Come on -- you'll be fine; mud can be your friend.

Laurel, I will back out early to permit the person on the waiting list to attend. I might run by and do a shorter loop as I have a load of homework coming due this weekend. Thanks for scheduling this. I really wanted to go. Thx, Kenny

    6 mile loop

    I'm bringing my friend Arati.

    February 16

  • Mountain Laurel

Bring your backpacks we will be hiking with them on the purple trail to get our backs use to it. If you do the whole trail with it as your first time with a pack you will be sore and cursing me out! LOL!

    February 18

    • Dawn

Since I'm not doing Mt. W, I think I'll skip the extra weight and you'll all be cursing me even more. LOL neener neener neener

Dawn -- I'd be careful on the overpasses if I were you :).

      1 · February 18

    Sounds good Maria

    February 18

  • Terri

I guess then I don't need mine either . But it s good to hold things in it...

    February 18

  • Dawn

So, Laurel, will this be a REAL 8 miles or is it plus or minus 2 miles like last weekend? LOL

    1 · February 12

    • Kathie Havemann

The 6 miles alone is a killer. I may not be alive for the 2.1 :).

      1 · February 12

    • Mountain Laurel

The purple trail is less strenuous than the orange.

      February 13

  • Terri

    Sure You will be Kathie

Got cardio tennis for a few weeks. I'll go on the Caesar Creek hike on Sunday to make up for it!

  • Cindy W

Laurel, when do you estimate we'll be finished? Will I make it to my daughter's concert at Wright State at 3:00?

    February 5

    • Mountain Laurel

I estimate we will be done by 1:30 or 2:00 pm but there is an option to cut the hike short and get done sooner. If you just do the 6 mile loop you should be done in plenty of time.

      February 5

    • Cindy W

      Sounds good. Thank you!

      February 5

  • Jackie

HI, Laurel, I won't be able to make the hike in the AM; Pet Therapy @ the VA Center from 0900-1200. See you on the trails ... thank you for the training hikes & guidance (:>)

Laurel--I will be on my way to Sedona that day...however, I promise to take many challenging hikes out there, and with the hotter weather, it should be more like our July trip!

My daughter has a concert that afternoon. I'll go on the Caesar Creek hike on Sunday!
