Day Hike - Nine Miler on the Buckeye Trail

Looking to complete a few miles on the Buckeye Trail?  Want a nice walk on a Sunday?  How about a way to burn some calories before having a few St. Patrick's Day beers?  This event takes care of all these needs!

We will meet at the Caesar Creek State Park Corps of Engineers Visitor's Information Center (4020 North Clarksville Road) between 10:15 and 10:30 a.m.  Cramming into as few cars as we can manage, we will drive to the Mather's Mill ODNR parking lot and hike about nine miles along bike trails, back roads, and wooded paths until our return to the Visitor's Center.  We will then need a couple of gracious hikers to drive the shuttle drivers back to their cars at Mather's Mill, before we all gather again at Stone House Tavern in Waynesville for a nice post hike (and St. Patrick's Day) meal and libations.  Moderate pace as most of this hike is flat.  Remember, a successful hike for me means getting most of you back.

Most of this hike is on bike paths and back roads, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended.  Cameras might also be a good idea as spring flowers should be starting to come alive!  Also, bring water and snacks to carry you through.

I zoned out while driving past my exit that added 10 minutes to the trip. My fault.

sorry I missed you all by showing up 10 minutes late. Hiked the trails for 12 miles.

Sorry we missed you, Tom. We left the parking lot five minutes after the stated time, but guess that window just wasn't quite enough.

Had a great time with good people. Pace was fine for me since it was paved and relatively flat. Buckeye did a good job of keeping an eye out fir everyone.

My first hike with the group and I had a lot of fun. I thought the pace ok. I did not feel long breaks were needed because of the short distance and easy terrain My Thanks to Buckeye for planning and leading this event. He really kept an eye out for everyone.

I need to know a little about the trail portion of this hike; how much up and down and how technical?I assume it is single track. I also need to know the pace you expect to do on the road. I may need to back out if I feel I can not do the hike.

It is nearly all road/paved bike path. Fairly wide then. Short time in woods which will be single path. Looks like one hill of maybe 100 feet in height. Pace will be around 3mph, which for road walking is very moderate. I think you will be fine!

If it rains all week like this... The m-word will keep me from coming.

Sorry, more to my comment...looks like less than a mile might be on trail, and part of that is old road, so gym shoes might work.

I have good hiking boots but prefer the cushion of gym shoes if doing pavement

Will you be stopping on the trail to eat some lunch?

    March 11

    • Buckeye

We will take an extended break along the way for sustenance. :)
