EARTH DAY Evening Hike at Germantown - mod pace 2.8 mph - 7 miles in 2.5 hours

**  Park at the TVT OVernight Parking /  Sledding Hill Lot  **

Germantown MetroPark Germantown MetroPark

Come celebrate Earth Day by going on a hike!  Join us for an evening hike at Germantown Metropark starting at 6 pm.  We will hike clockwise, starting on the Orange trail and visiting Sunfish Pond, cross the dam, and then hit the hills and the big woods!  Depending on the weather and trail conditions, we will either venture down by the creek or stay up on the yellow trail at this point, finishing up the hike on the green and orange trail back to the parking area......I look for the mileage to be in the 7 mile range and time should take about 2.5 hours total.  This is a great hike and I look forward to seeing you there.  Keep in mind that Germantown can be VERY muddy this time of year, so proper hiking footwear is recommended and and trekking poles are advised as well.  Bring a headlamp if you have one, it could get dark on us!  It is about 3 days before the full moon later that week.

Germantown MetroPark is the most diverse and significant natural area managed by MetroParks. The size, quality, and age of the woodlands are exceptional. Steep topography and varied moisture gradients make for a variety of forest types and microhabitats. Many species of plants and animals here are found nowhere else in Montgomery County. The park also contains large open grasslands, cedar glades, dry hillside prairies, all stages of natural succession, several ponds, and an exceptionally high quality stream, Twin Creek. The park also benefits from the fact that it still is surrounded largely by agricultural land and the wooded Twin Creek corridor.

IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO MAKE THIS A LONGER OR A FASTER PACED HIKE, PLEASE RSVP FOR THE 3PM HIKE AS WELL, AND COMBINE THE TWO FOR A 14 MILE DAY!  THE 3 PM HIKE WILL BE AT A VERY BRISK PACE - BETWEEN 3.2 AND 4 MPH FOR THE ENTIRE 7 MILE LOOP.

RSVP HERE FOR THE EARLIER START.

THIS WILL BE A RAIN OR SHINE EVENT, ALTHOUGH THE WEATHER FORECAST IS FOR 68 DEGREES AND PARTLY CLOUDY SKIES AND ONLY 10% CHANCE OF SHOWERS ...... KEEP IN MIND, WE ARE IN THE MIAMI VALLEY AREA AND THAT CAN CHANGE BY THE MINUTE!
