EARTH DAY AFTERNOON Hike at Germantown - BRISK pace 3.5 mph

This is being posted as a SPEED HIKE.  If you are not familiar with Speed Hiking, please CLICK HERE to read the FAQ's and learn all about Speed Hiking.  Basically, this is a very brisk paced hike designed for fitness purposes.  This is not a stroll in the woods, if there are any breaks, they will be very short.  If you can not keep up at a minimum of 3 mph for the entire hike, then this hike is not for you.

**  Park at the TVT OVernight Parking /  Sledding Hill Lot  **

Germantown MetroPark Germantown MetroPark

THIS HIKE IS PAIRED TOGETHER WITH THE GERMANTOWN EARTH DAY EVENING 7 MILE HIKE FOR A 14 MILE OPTION OR AN EARLIER, MORE BRISK PACE HIKE, FOR ANYONE INTERESTED.....I WILL BE STARTING THIS "WARM-UP" HIKE AT 3 PM SHARP, AND IT WILL BE A BIT FASTER PACED THAN THE EVENING HIKE.

WE WILL COMPLETE THE 7 MILE LOOP IN 2 HOURS - DOING A MIX OF FASTER PACED HIKING AND SHORT BURSTS OF TRAIL RUNNING ON SOME OF THE HILLS FOR SOME QUICK INTERVAL STYLE TRAINING.

THIS IS A GREAT WAY TO BUILD YOUR ENDURANCE AND AEROBIC CAPACITY FOR THE LONGER VENUES, SUCH AS THE 31.4 MILE TVT HIKER CHALLENGE IN JUNE!

Bring a lunch or dinner snack, and we will have some time between the two hikes to sit and relax at the picnic area at the top of the sledding hill, eat a snack, and share some good company....

This is an earlier start to the 6 pm evening hike in Germantown for Earth Day.  For anyone who wants to hike a little farther, or a little faster, join me at 3 pm for a 2 hour journey around the orange loop, taking in the silver, yellow, and green sections for a strenuous, Brisk pace - 3.5 mph.  Feel free to join me only on this hike or only on the evening hike beginning at 6 pm that night......or, do the entire thing with me - for a 14 mile day!

FOR THOSE CONTINUING ON AND WANTING TO DO THE ENTIRE 14 MILES, THERE IS NO NEED TO CHANGE YOUR RSVP FOR THE OTHER HIKE, I DID NOT PLACE A LIMIT ON ATTENDANCE, SIMPLY SIGN UP FOR THIS ONE AND YOU ARE IN FOR BOTH!

Come celebrate Earth Day by going on a hike!  Join us for an evening hike at Germantown Metropark starting at 6 pm.  We will hike clockwise, starting on the Orange trail and visiting Sunfish Pond, cross the dam, and then hit the hills and the big woods!  Depending on the weather and trail conditions, we will either venture down by the creek or stay up on the yellow trail at this point, finishing up the hike on the green and orange trail back to the parking area......I look for the mileage to be in the 7 mile range and time should take about 2.5 hours total.  This is a great hike and I look forward to seeing you there.  Keep in mind that Germantown can be VERY muddy this time of year, so proper hiking footwear is recommended and and trekking poles are advised as well.  Bring a headlamp if you have one, it could get dark on us!  It is about 3 days before the full moon later that week.

Great fast hike today - good speed hiking! Mark certainly wins the gold medal for a 92 minute time, over our 110 minutes, however, we all did well. The second time around was brutal, and still maintained a 3.4 mph pace for the second loop as well. Mark....Congrats on the 4.6 pace, buddy - YOU DA MAN!

If you are coming from Cincinati and getting off of interstate 75 at state route 725 by the Dayton Mall, I will be right there by where you would get off of the interstate

John, I have hiked the whole Orange Trail in 1:54 before or 1 hour and 54 minutes. I would love to do this hike with you if I could get a ride from you down to the park. I am willing to meet you somewhere along the way that you are planning to go if you pick me up

Mark, I would be willing to pick you up, however, I am hiking 14 miles.....The first 7 is faster paced, starting at 3 pm. After that, there is a large group of hikers coming at 6 pm, for the evening hike. I just hiked the orange loop - taking the silver and yellow, yesterday morning in 1 hr, 40 mins, but was really pushing hard, and that was in the mud......if it is not raining, I am thinking I could do it a little faster. I am coming from Kettering.......let me know some places I could pick you up.....
