Women's Hiking Retreat - Cumberland Falls

  • Oct 25, 2013 · 4:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Time for a women's hiking retreat at beautiful Cumberland Falls, considered the Niagara of the south. Cumberland Falls is a hiker’s paradise with 17 miles of hiking trails that wind through the park to scenic areas. The Moonbow Trail connects with many backpacking trails in the Daniel Boone National Forest. This is a 4 hour drive from Dayton, Ohio. Other activities available are horseback riding, tennis, horseshoes, and rafting.

This retreat is for hikers who can hike 2.5 mph and cover at least 8 miles. The cabin has a full kitchen so bring your own food. We can eat out for dinner if you wish but remember to bring food you can carry on the trail for lunch and whatever you want for breakfast. Please bring your hiking boots, hiking sticks, backpacks, first aid kit, bug spray, and water bottles. I will email everyone a copy of my packing list for your convenience in October.

Price of the trip:

The cost of the retreat is $110 per person. A $10 non-refundable deposit fee is due within one week after I email you my address. This fee will go towards your total trip fee if you attend. The balance of the trip fee $100 is due by August 25th. If money and forms are not received by the due date you will be dropped from the trip. The trip fee covers the cost of lodgings and miscellaneous expenses incurred by me to plan and manage the retreat.

The exact location of the lodgings will only be given to attendees of the retreat shortly before the retreat begins. Only attendees of this retreat may attend the scheduled hikes for this weekend. Anyone who crashes a retreat will be banned from any future retreats and hikes by me.

Refund & Cancellation Policy: $10 of the trip fee is required for a deposit, which will reserve a spot for you on the retreat. This deposit is non-refundable. All attendees must sign a Trip Participant Risk/Release Form as well as a Trip Application & Medical Information Form. I reserve the right to cancel the trip due to party size or any unforeseen health issues that would render me unable to participate in the trip. In the event the trip is canceled by me, you will receive a full refund within a week. Cancellation by the attendee within one month will result in no refund. If a last minute replacement is found for spot you will receive a refund minus your deposit fee of $10 within a week after the retreat is over. Cancellation by the attendee that is more than one month notice will result in a refund minus the $10 deposit when someone takes your place and sends me their trip fee. If no one takes your place, you will not receive a refund.

Carpooling:

Volunteer drivers will either pick up carpoolers at their homes or have them meet at the driver's home. That way no one has to worry about what will happen to their car while they are gone.

Forms: Necessary forms will be emailed to you when I receive your email address. If I send them through meetup it just screws up the forms. The signature must be an actual signature not typed in.

Trip Application & Medical Information Form and Refund & Cancellation Form must be returned with deposit.

Trip Risk/Release Form and Trip Guidelines Form must be returned with the $100 balance of trip fee.

One is always a little leary about housing with folks that you've never met before, this was a nice group of women with whom to share a cabin, hike and dine with. It was a group effort on the hike and housing worked out perfectly. Thanks ladies!! Sandy

I am so excited this morning about this trip that I have decided to leave early because I have finished packing and there is nothing else to do. I will just check out some of the trails if I can't get into the cabin until 4 pm. Look forward to seeing you all there!

I will be doing 3 hikes during our stay. One starting Saturday morning for 6 to 7 miles which we will carry a lunch to eat on the trail. One starting around 3 or 4 pm on Saturday which will cover about 2 miles. Then one on Sunday morning for 5 miles.

Hi Laurel, thanks for telling me about this last night at the Backpacking 101. Looking forward to the trip. Not sure what time I can get off of work on Friday. Might be arriving a little late. Thanks again and have a great day.

Looks like I have no one to carpool with at this time. So if anyone wishes to ride with me let me know. I will be leaving around noon in order to check in and get our cabin assignment by 4pm.

Are we cooking our Friday and Saturday evening meals?
If so, maybe we should have a meal plan so that 8 cooks aren't in the kitchen at once! What have you done on previous retreats.

Some people went out to dinner and some people cooked there own. I just leave it up to everyone to decide which they would rather do.

It looks like a 4 hour drive to Cumberland falls from my home. I need to arrive before everyone else in order to check us in and get our cabin number. So let me know when you will be arriving.
